So.... the million year old Coopers need replacement on my 91 K5. 31x10.5x15 size. 95% of the time the Blazer is street driven, it would be nice in case of emergency it could be snow driven.
Speaking of driving.... I drive it maybe 1k annually.
So.... is their a tire in the $150 range that's "decent".
Thanks guys!

OfferUp and CList
Find what other don’t want anymore. Run them till they get weathered and find something again. 31-33” all day but having a couple size rims helps. 15 & 17 are popular for the smaller tires. :waytogo:

You are saying $150 each?

I was coming here to say BFG AT KO2's, but I see they are $230 each at Discount Tire now!

Sorry, not much help beyond that. I've been very happy with those tires in the multi-role tire category.

Can you still purchase used tires at a tire shop or has that become a liability for the shop and their insurance won’t let them offer that anymore? :dunno:

My experience back when I had little money and two vehicles, was that the used tires consistently got flats, not to mention the horrid grip anywhere outside of dry pavement.

Perhaps now that all tires are marked with dates some of that can be eliminated by staying within the recommended age of tires, and making sure to get ones with substantial tread left. As mentioned earlier, CL or Offerup is probably more likely to have tires people took off their rig that were still in good shape, but they wanted something different. Not because they were worn out or super old, which was my experience at the used tire places.

FWIW, I've never had problems with used tire shop tires on my trailer though.

I always put used tires on mine and my wife's DD. Glen's Tires in SLC always has plenty of used selection in our size. Plus, they do alignments on the cheap.
Had very good success with used tires from them.
If all you need is some rollers, go to picknpull. Every now and then, they even have the bigger tires for cheap

Cheap and New tires can't be used in the same sentence anymore....

CL, used tire place... Take offs.....

Me, happy with Wrangler RTS for street tires...

Yes the discount tire credit card is a nice option. The tires I just put on the 01 suburban, were quoted when I ordered them next day for install they discounted another 5% for using their credit card. No interest if paid in 6 months. Which I will do, I mean free money.

Used tires, for me wouldn't be horrible, I am always looking at tires and should spot a bad one before it fails.
Other people, new or take offs.

I watch Facebook market place for tire deals. I picked up a set of 31's for my dd a couple months ago, near brand new coopers for $350. Jeep guy bought them then out grew then after a couple months.

I have gotten several tires in the last year from unitedtires on eBay. It sounds stupid to ship tires, but I'm usually paying like $70/tire shipped. I got a matching set of stockers on one truck for around $160, 90%+, because I already had 1 brand new one in the shed. It makes sense for me because there is so much available on eBay and marketplace here usually involves driving 100 miles each way.

The key is keeping mount/balance costs down. I have a local place that does it for $20/tire, which is pretty good, but that's why you don't want to keep slapping 50% tires on and paying mounting twice as often.

The Ironman MT is probably the cheapest I've heard of. $152 for the 31/10.5R15 on 4 Wheel Parts. I didn't search elsewhere.

Ive run a few different brand name M/T type in the past. Found the cheap ones were not round or took a lot of weight and ride quality was a crap shoot.
I recently switched to the Falken Wildpeak a/3tw and they are a great tire.
I run the 35" and they work excellent in winter snow and mud at least in our local mountains, they're round, smooth and quiet. I also put them on my TJ (31") and no complaints.
Looks about $200/ea for 31" now but they carry a 55,000 mile tread guarantee!

I bought tires for my '83 Suburban last spring. I want tires that will wear pretty well on the road, and also have good snow/ice traction. I had it narrowed down to a Kumho, a Nokian, or Starfire Solarus. The Starfire looks like maybe not quite as good as the others, but it's way cheaper, $135, 50K warranty, and has really good reviews that say it does great in snow, and the tread looks to me like it should, so thought I'd take a chance on it. Haven't had them in snow yet, but happy with them so far. They're made by Cooper, in fact they were shipped to me direct from the Cooper factory.

I have the Kumho road ventures on my wife's AWD Safari. Excellent in the snow and ice. Pretty good tread life. Nokian Hakapelita snows with studs on the suburban, also excellent in snow and ice. Tread wear has been good for a dedicated snow softer compound. I have had good luck with Copper main line and the generic off labels. Running the snow claws on my flatbed right now. Bit on the soft side but that's snow tires in general. The Milestar Patagonias have been real good too for a cheap tire. Better performing than you would expect for the price.
