Looking to do a rebuild on a '77 Blazer, But cannot find info on axles. Trying to find difference between Dana 44 or 60? 10/12/14 bolt axles? Not sure what they are, I know i want to run either 3/4 or 1 Ton axles for 37" Tires. Looking for tech advice and info if possible. Thanks.

The 10/12 bolt rear axles are 1/2 ton axles, the 14SF axle was a 3/4 ton 6 or 8 lug, the 14FF was a 3/4 or 1 ton 8 lug axle (only difference is 3/4 ton uses 42.5" center to center for spring perch spacing while the 1 ton version has 40.5" center to center spacing) the D44 and 10 bolt front axle was a 1/2 ton (6 lug) or 3/4 ton (8 lug), the D60 front axle is a 1 ton 8 lug axle and is the beef and what is recommended if running a tire larger than a 35".

always wondered, can you take axles from a ford, dodge, chevy, anything? I'm assuming ford/dodge doesn't use gm corporate, what do their 3/4 or 1 ton rigs come stock with? Is dana the only other type of axle out there? just a newb wanting to be edumacated.

Excuse me for leaching off this thread but it is related...

I'm planning on swapping a fr 10 bolt and rr 14 bolt sf out of a K20 into my 87 K5. They are geared 4:10 and I will be locking both. Safe tire size to run would be 35s? I would prefer to get 37s on there but I don't want to be fixing this thing on the trail every time out. Are 37s too much for the front 10b? What about the rear 14bsf?

Looking for trail experienced input, not the guy who runs 40s on 10 bolts and never has any issues cause the truck gets washed and waxed every week and the only "off road" it sees is the grassy field at the car show.

awesome reading, thanks. I love finding new stuff on this site. This place is the best. Thanks again.

This is great info, but I have questions still.
I know that my rear axle is the GM Corporate 10 Bolt with 8 1/2" ring gear diameter. So what is my front? It also has 10 bolts but is the ring gear 7 1/2"? Unlike the rear axle the fill plug is in the front of the axle.

The front axle is also a 8.5" ring gear 10 bolt.

10 bolt axles did come in two varities, 28 spline up until 1988 and then 30 spline from 1989 and later.

hey i am sorry to interrupt but, I have a 79 k5 and i just bought 84 srw 1ton what all i am going to do to bolt these axles to my springs? i know the shafts and steering but what about the u bolts and spring pads?

If the axles are from a one ton you will have to relocate shock mounts and spring perches for the rear (read a couple posts above) You will also need a conversion u joint. The front will bolt in. Really not sure about steering though I have never used the stock steering on a 60

iam using a crossover kit from ORD and i thank you for the info on the rear axle. I hope it goes well when i change this stuff out

the sheer technical knowledge of this site never fails to blow my mind. whenever someone wants to know where to find a certain technical spec my answer is always.... ask and yee shall receive.

this thread is a perfect example. not one question went unanswered, question asked, question answered. my hat off to you gents.
