I am days away from starting up my LQ9 swap and wanted to make sure I had all my ducks in a row.

At this point, the engine is in and pretty much everything connected apart from fuel pump and pcm. I still need to mount the cats and hook up the O2 sensors but that is about it.

Cooling system, oil and trans all filled. Engine turns over well either direction.

I do have a good view of the flywheel from by the starter, is there a cover that is supposed to go there or anything? Seems like a good way to get a bunch of crap up in the TC.

Apart from sealing that, anything else I can do to prevent catastrophe? I have read some horror stories and this being my first swap I am nervous....

I have nothing to add other than it sounds like you are not hurrying, which is good. Thats usually when mistakes are made.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Gm has little plastic covers a side the bell housing for covers. The ls engines are hard to prime the oil sense the pump is behind the front cover. I worked at a dealer for 7 years and every tech fired it with no prime and let the pump catch up.

Bah. Catastrophe? What could possibly happen when starting a new engine that could be called a catastrophe? Don't over think it mang. Hook it all up, put gas in it, juice it up with 12v, turn the key...it's either gonna start...or it's not, thats it. If it starts correctly.. slam that shifter into gear and peal out. If it doesn't start....you didn't hook everything up. Start back tracking. Those catastrophes you read about never mention that the guy is an idiot who shouldn't even look at a screw driver, let alone an engine hoist.

I've been following your build threads here and on pirate....You aren't an idiot. :D:haha:

Watch this video. "Dirt Every Day: Alabama Army Truck". They put a supercharged Cadillac CTS-V crate motor in the CUCV and even had first time issues with it. And these guys do it ALOT. Might give ya some confidence. ;)

did the same swap last year. Nothing scary happened and it was my first time as well. Zeus is right, it'll start or it wont and you'll look around and figure it out. It's no different than any other engine in that regard.

giterdone!

you guys are awesome. Cheers. Guess I just needed a little pep talk as the big day approaches. ha ha. Time to put my purse down and pick up my balls!

If it's ran in the last 12 months, I wouldn't be concerned about priming anything.
