I just had a new engine put in my 96 Suburban the injection pump had to be replaced the mechanic that was doing the work took it to the dealer and they said it was the injection pump. When I spoke to the dealer they said that the pump was damaged by the person that removed or installed it. Now the dealer says to confirm they would have to inspect the old pump. My question is with 200,000 miles is it more likely worn out or should I pay the dealer to inspect? This is a $2000.00 plus part that I did not have trouble with before but I know that doesn't mean that it wasn't worn out but I wonder what the deal is. Oh yeah I almost forgot the repair has doubled in cost.

You could find a local diesel pump and injection shop in your area and take it there for a second opinion...

Those guys see that stuff day in and day out......most places that do big rig pumps also do the 6.5 ones....

worth a try..

No offense, but you'd be a fool to spend 2 grand on an injection pump for a 6.5L! You can buy and install a quality re manufactured for under a grand. Less than $500 if you are willing to install a used IP.

The only "difficult" part of installing the IP is setting the injection timing, but a decent shop should be willing to do that fairly cheap.
