I already run a Power Steering Cooler, but would love to try to run a small inline filter on it also. Would an external transmission filter work or does someone make something smaller like a fuel filter that would go inline from the cooler?

i have been running an inline trans filter and a cooler for a while. im not sure if its actually needed. but cheap insurance yes.

I beleive WIX sells a universal automatic trannny / P/S filter that splices into the reurn line, and it has a magnet inside to retain any metal filings, plus a ribbed metal case that will aid cooling slightly...pretty cheap too..they have a cheap plastic one that looks like a gas filter too,but I'd be leery of them melting, they look too cheesy to me!..

200k+ miles on my original power steering pump, not sure one is really needed.. :dunno:

Just flush out the system from time to time if you're worried about it. I haven't even done that though. Replaced one seal, that's about it.

I run one of these. Magnefine makes them specifically for the PS system (not sure how that would differ from the trans filter version :dunno: but they do designate them separately). For $15 I don't see any reason not to.:thumb:

the wix one is the one i have. super cheap.

4xcrazy- im on my 4th p/s pump in 8 years. im guessing they dont like 42" tires since i havent sprung for hydro assist. thats why i have a filter, along with a small trans cooler.

I'd be willing to bet it's more along the lines of keeping the fluid cool more than filtered out, i'm not saying it's not a good idea and whatnot, but with that large of a tire, yeah, it's gonna heat up. :tongue1:

i agree. my p/s system takes quite a bit of fluid. so more fluid + cooler makes them last longer. the filter is just there to keep any junk from an old pump from ruining the new pump.
