Driving around yesterday in my m1009 with the windows open and soft top rolled up, I was hearing some weird noises coming from the front passenger side when I hit bumps in the road. Got home yesterday after work and checked it out. I knew my inner front fenders were rusting out but damn! Both of the battery trays are rotted through the inner fender :eek1:

I really hope I dont lose a battery as I drive till I can fix it this weekend :doah:

So anyway, I have a new pair of inner front fenders that I picked up for cheap while ago. But when I was checking out my m1009, it looks like there is some reinforcing where the battery trays mount to the inner fender. Can I swap the civilian inner fenders to my m1009 without much hassle? I would like to know what I'm getting myself into before I start tearing into it this weekend.

Thanks

My guess is that GM didn't tool different sheet metal, but covered the differences with bolt-on stuff. I would be surprised if anything more than drilling a hole or two is required.

In the meantime...you don't need batteries. Just keep the 6.2 idling. :D

Lol that's true. I looked at it some more last night. I think the difference is just that the CUCV has a couple extra bolt on braces added to it

I know the bracing you are talking about. My inners need replacing so I hope to hear how you make out. I'm actually considering swapping my batteries to the civilian dual battery location soon, but my current batteries are ginormous. If your trays themselves are rotted this may be an option for you. You need to relocate the coolant too.

Ok so I swapped out the passenger side inner wheel well on saturday. The 3 support brackets unbolt from the inner fender. But mine are all pretty rusty so I will not be re-using them. The front support is just a straight piece, so that will be easy to make a new one. The middle support just has a small bend (about 40degree) so that's also easy to make. The rear support will be a little tricky, It has 2 bends and one of those is at a different angle.

So for now, I bolted the inner fender in. I only got to use 6 bolts because the fender is so rusty lol. I had to drill a couple holes for the battery trays. My trays are still in good shape. I saved the old wheel well so that I have something to go by when I make the new battery tray supports
