The future missus and I went for a drive today, I wanted to head up to the Butt Mountain Firetower and check it out. There is vehicular access, just on some washed out state roads.

I had no issues with the terrain, as I had a steering wheel to hold onto. :D

Heather, on the other hand was not very impressed with my driving abilities. :doah:

Right now I just have a standard cab, bench seat pickup. There's no grab bars whatsoever in the cab.

What I would really like to do is figure a way to intall some grab handles on the A-pillars, and try to find a graceful solution for something on the dashboard on the passenger side.

Additionally, I'm thinking some better seats may make the ride more comfortable. Perhaps installing a better 3-point or 4-point harness, and better seats.

This truck is no trail king, just a 4x4 standard cab with some 265/75R16 MT's that I like to take down fire roads. If I can make Heather more comfortable in the passenger seat with a better seat, harness, and something to hold onto... then I can worry more about driving and less about her bouncing around the cab.

So, right now I'm thinking of Corbeau Baja JP, or Moab and Corbeau's retractable 3-point harness. I'm still trying to brainstorm a bit on the grab-bars/handles.

How do these seats and harnesses hold up for bigger-framed people? Any women-types with experience in the 3/4/5-point harnesses?

Thanks in advance for any input! :waytogo:

Mitch, I believe you could add a grab bar to the A pillar without much problem. You would have to sculpt it to fit the pillar, but it could be done. I added one to the cage in my truck and its GREAT for getting in the truck. Also ran a bar across the dash to put a grab bar on too:

I have PRP seats in mine and they work great and have for 5 years. Still the most comfortable seats out of all 5 vehicles I normally drive. The bolsters on the sides help to keep you in and the harnesses help too. I have the wider version.

6'1 around 260 depending on what I had for lunch and love em. My wife loves them also but she doesn't fall into the larger frame group.

Grab handles well check out all the companies and you might look at RV stores for cheaper versions that you can bolt to the a pillar. No help on the one on the dash without a cage, although you could put in a removeable handle bar type that attaches to the floor. (Think of handle bars for a kids push type scooter, like a skateboard with handlebars.) Mount a stand to the floor and have it able to disconnect with a quick release pin.

I meant to diagnose the shape and design of the seat in relation to the seat..:D:D

:haha: Funny man.

Heather (gofergurl on here) still hasn't uploaded any pics that we took this afternoon. Nothing too spectacular, but we did stop and check out a really neat covered bridge.

Okay, because you asked so nicely...

FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORD!!

the problem with nice seats...is they will still be wrapped in FORD exterior lol

anyway, I like the 4 point harness and Moab seats, never used either, but they would be my choice if the funds allowed it.

Yeah, I know it's a Ford  :D

Heather's the one with the (T10) GMC Jimmy, and she won't let me take it anywhere off-pavement.

I think the conclusion that I'm arriving at, after doing a bunch of research, is that if I want to go the harness route, I'll need to get someone to (at a minimum) weld up a support bar behind the seats for the shoulder straps. The standard cab really doesn't have much space to work with in regards to more common styles of harness mounts.

I might have to hit up a couple local speed shops and see what they have to say about it. Corbeau makes a seat mount for my truck, so installing the seats myself will be no big deal. But for something like belts/harnesses, I really want someone a little more knowledgeable than myself to do the work.

So, it looks like this little project might cost a bit of coin :doah:
