haha, nice....

Trust me, I don't have an issue with it on a trailrig.. Heck, even a DD.. But they should be semi or flat.. Gloss from rattlecans usually looks cheesy...

My point was mainly that for the time and effort to roll and tip, ya might as well do a quickie spray job.. Takes less time...

After the blasting I've taken in this thread I'm not real sure i want to bother putting in the effort to write out a tech article for this site on proper bodywork procedures.. I'd hate to go thru that work to be scoffed at as bling.. Obviously not a priority for most here...

Ryoken,
I have to say that I agree 100% with your mentality. I have a '90 K5 that is an extremely nice truck. I don't wheel it EVER. I use it to tow my boat, camper, 4 wheeler, etc. and I hunt in it. It sees small amounts of mud when hunting but thats about it. To say that putting a nice paint job on a 4x4 is a waste of money is ridiculous. There are nice streetable 4x4's out there and many belong to people on this site. If you want an off-road only rig then go for it, but to say a nice 4x4 is "waste" or "bling" is senseless. I'm about to repaint my K5 as soon as I get the new engine in. Incidentally, while I had the engine out I cleaned and repainted every nut, bolt, and fastener, as well as repainted the frame, fender wells, etc. My intent is to make this truck look brand new and I fully intend on putting a really good paint job on it, whether I pay someone else or do it myself. I'm sure I will shoot you a few PM's when that time comes.

Once again, someone saying things better than my fingers can spew.. :haha:

Guess this'll be one of those threads that always comes back around..

And I'll just add that for guys doing the kinda projects we do, wetscrubbing the truck, masking it off, and blasting it out in your driveway with a couple hundred bucks in materials and a $50 gun should be a pretty straight-forward task.. It's the minimum I'll do..

It's 2 days work, tops... And the results are 10x more durable and exponentially better looking than any "quickie" alternative...

And so, back to the grave/archive for this one.... :haha:

Post that bad boy up when you get it done.....share.
I agree to that a nice paint job isn't a waste on a 4x4...it just depends what your plans for it are.

im all about spending a zillion hours to make a truck nice and taking less than a month to screw it up..

.problem is i am on ryokin's side and against him. i just like my truck to look nice while building it, its a pride thing if i have the mean to make it right for a 200.00 or a little more than fine. i think a 20.00 rattle can in *most* cases looks like it.

i can side on either side of the fence.. but having painted, and being around a body shop as much as i am, there is no comparrison to a pro job. hell even a single stage painted in the back yard can look good, it is not however professinal.

Yeah to say that a decent paint job doesnt belong on a 4x4 is an idiotic statement. Who says you cant have a halfway decent looking trail rig?

Wait a minute, why did this thread pop back up in my User CP? Did somebody change something? The last post is old. :dunno: Oh well, nothing like digging up the old stuff.

Depends on the wheeling you do. I know I can't have a decent looking trail rig. Not when I use my doors as pivot points on trees.

Someone probaly voted.

I always find it funny when someone strolls in and votes in an ancient poll... It's not like anyone pays attention to the results after a week or so...

Oh, and this thread sucked.... :wink1: Poll results for this question are dubious at best, for the simple fact that noone in this forum has a clue about rolling and tipping, but me. Considering it's a marine technique, thats not unexpected...

My truck looks alright. I just rolled it. Not too sure what "tipping" is :dunno: Maybe it has something to do with the beers I was "tipping" back while I was doing it to give it that "Walla!" drunken sense of accomplishment.:D

hehe, nice... :haha:

Haven't rolled and tipped much at the new marina... I'm doing mechanical 90% of the time. I miss doing glasswork.... Hopefully we'll get a couple more mechanics and I can go back to being more all-purpose...

Ryoken, I completely agree with you. however, I think this site is starting to contort my feelings about rattle can jobs on wheeler's. if you ever want a place to go where you wont get flamed, come into my build thread. :D

haha, it'll NEVER die, no matter how hard I tried to kill it! :haha:

Seems to come up every 6 months or so.. :dunno: Eh, I stand by what I said tho... :woot:
