My cousin, baitfish2 picked me up before daylight this morning in his '95 Chevy 4wd.
I'm guessingC10.
Yeah, right. Probably closer to a 1500. Turkey season is taking its toll early.
It has these truly crappy grey plastic inside door handles. The passenger side has been flaky since he got the truck. I think the linkage inside the door is worn.
He replaced the inside handle back during hunting season and claimed that fixed it.
When we got to where we were going to park, I tried to get out. The door handle would pull, but not release the door. Which was what it was doing before.
I started to roll down the window so I could use the outside handle, but he assured me that the inside one worked.
I was just too much of a wimp to use it. Said his wife had no problems. "Just pull it harder"
Its my leg that is bad, not my arm. So, I pulled. SNAP!!
Then I finished rolling down the window and using the outside handle.
He bitched because I broke his handle, until I noticed the one on his side was hanging straight down and he was using the outside one too.
I was going to go onto Rockauto to price handles, but I can't seem to get to their catalog.
They may be having server troubles.
Does anybody know of a permanent fix for these things? Maybe a later or earlier truck that could be adapted?
He has about an 85 or so that is in good shape as far as rust is concerned, that he is about to send to the scrap yard.
I don't think the handles would interchange, but I suggested swapping the whole doors.
But the paint would not match.
It may just be that there is nothing wrong with these type handles, its just that the linkage needs repair.
First chance I get, I'll pull the inside panel off and see exactly what is what, but I figured someone here might have a suggestion first.
