Has anyone built an interior tire carrier to fit a bigger tire? I'm mulling over ideas for how to fab one up to fit a 35-37" tire on end. In my case I'm looking at mounting it to existing bolt holes from the rear seat (removed) and rear seat belts. It would go behind the driver. I think it could be nice and sturdy mounting to the floor and bed rail. I can picture it in my head except for the part that actually mounts the tire, since this will need some slop to account for exact tire size, and I'd like the option to move from 35 to 37 in the future. Pics of anything vaguely similar would be helpful, thanks.

Will be watching this be interesting to see what you come up with. I've been thinking of mounting mine on the inside of the bed.

With no rear seat, could you just take one of the stock interior carriers and modify it for the larger tire? I'm sure it wouldn't be a super easy job to modify the existing mount, however it would be sturdy and need no additional holes/bolts to be sturdy.

I made my 33 fit by "spacing" the mount a bit closer to the rear seat, but since you don't have a rear seat, I'd think gaining a couple more inches would be easy. As this mounting method creates some wasted space behind the tire, I intend to create some sort of "carrier" that mounts behind the tire to hold things like jumper cables, spare bottle of coolant, oil, tow strap, etc.

D Rat has a pretty slick interior tire carrier...it is in a Suburban..more room.

Okay, here's what I came up with. It's not perfect, but pretty close to what I was hoping for. I built it out of 1" square tubing mounted to existing holes in floor and bed rail. I didn't need to build it all around the floor just for the tire carrier, but my plan is to put some eye-bolts around the perimeter to make it easier to tie junk down. The tire mounts by being cranked into the frame with a 3/4" piece of acme threaded rod. I welded the rod to an extra piece of 1" tubing so I have a permanent wrench in place at all times.

Hopefully you guys can see the pics...

Okay, I tried to fix the pics. How about now? How do other people link pics? Google and Microsoft both make it super painful to link to photos on their storage service.
