Install 203

Holy shiz was that f-ing difficult... After two more failed attempts today. Tcase is in.

I pray to the Gods all is well. I dont ever want to do this again. My wife helped and put up with constant swearing and banging my head against the frame rails.

Now I will go back one by one and loctite everything install the Tcase shifters etc etc...

Damn, what was GM thinking making such a hulking piece of a transfer case?

Hey! that hulking gem of cast iron is a New Process!!

Question how do I get the rear drive line in? It seems a hair long to get on the yoke on the Tcase?

I cant get it around the yoke flanges to set in the yoke?

There appears threads but I cant spin it by hand but is that the trick? Make it shorter by turning it then turn it again to make it longer?

Is that a new driveshaft?
Unscrew that collar and compress the slipjoint.
Touch up your t/c paintjob!

Yeah, I did. all that slipping, falling and dragging did a job on that fresh rattle can. I did touch it up.

Collar? This part in yellow? Yeah, it was my old one rebuilt.

Yes that collar, just loosen it with some slipjoint pliers...Unless its bottoming out already, which it shouldn't be if it was your original, it looks like you have more slip in that joint.

Sorry I was busy but you got it.
Yeah any grease that comes out is excess.
When you drive it it will compress and spit it out anyway even if you grease it after installing it.
I usually grease it drive it on a few bump stops and then wipe any excess grease so it doesn't create a mess. I had it happen before

The NP-203 had several different lubes specified, everything from 10W-30 motor oil to SAE 30,and 20W-50,depending on who's lube chart you read..the important thing is to not put gear oil in it,supposedly it is too thick to get up to the parts located on the top side and excess wear will result..
I think a lot of these full time T-cases got ruined because they look so similar to an NP-205 and the lube guys at the service stations would assume it took gear oil just like the NP-205,or ATF...wrong lube can finish one off pretty quickly..

The ol 1/2" nipple 90, nipple cap in the plug hole trick helps with that no?

The red spacers between cross member and frame need to be above the frame. bolt cross member tight up to frame.
If you haven't done so already.

When I bought my '78 it was like that. I figured maybe for an improvement on drive line angle? I don't know made me nervous the dizzy that close to the firewall.
