I installed the windstar fans and I want to be able to turn the small fan on manually besides having it go on when the AC goes on. So I need a diode in that circuit. Where can I get one and what size do I need. The diode will go in the circuit that energizes the relay for the fan, not the power to the fan itself. Thanks

If it's your basic Bosch-style relay, coil current is less than 100mA, so you could use basically any 1N400x-style diode.

If it's bigger than that, coil current could be an amp or two. I'd get the biggest 1N400-whatever you can -- Radio Shack carries, for instance,

which are good up to 6A, and if your relay coil takes more than that, you're doing something crazy =))

Thanks for your help, I'm off to Radio shack tomorrow.

And I'm using Bosch style relays.

I got 40 amp weatherproof relays from partsexpress.com Thanks again

I just got these relays for my fans, but have used them for a long time for fuel pumps on my Buick GN and so have my friends on their Buicks too. Partsexpress has the best prices on the relays and sockets. If you need the split plastic wire loom they have it in all sizes, cheap. I replaced all the wire loom on my 91 Burb.
