i worked at a glass shop for 2 years and currently hold my liscense
putting in a back window can be done with very simple tools at home
you need..
about 8 feet of 1/4 inch nylon rope
some kind of simple lube, you can use actual lube but its hard to clean, you will only need it for 10 mins, so window cleaner or water does fine
and some kind of tool with a hook on the end of it, good enough for yanking and such
you will also need the correct gasket and corresponding window
there are 2 kinds of gaskets, the indise groove on one has a thick 1/4 opening, this is for original sliders with a thick metal groove in it for the windows to move in, the second kind is thin and only able to fit a single layer window in it, they also make a slider that fits in this gasket, i have seen both aftermarket and stock windows such as these but are mostly used so that people who want a slider and dont have one, can get one
both gaskets fit on the pinch weld the same
fit the gasket over the window or slider then apply generous lube to the outside of the gasket, insert nylon rope all the way around the gasket
then place window on the bottom pinch weld and have someone push in on it
pull the rope from the inside of the truckand as you pull, follow the rope around with some pressure from the outside, as you pull it will pull the rubber gasket over the pinch weld, you can go all the way around, when you're done hit the outside to be sure it sits properly
whatever you do dont buy a new gasket, it will never fit right
dont be fooled, for chevy back windows, glass guys dont do it any special way
this is how i did it, and i was able to complete this by myself in about 10 mins
taking out the old window takes pressure but you also need to understand how much it takes to break it, or you WILL break it
