What is the proper procedure for adjusting a kickdown cable?

On a TH350 there is really no proper way, just adjust it until it downshifts where you like it to. Basically it's just a passing gear on a TH350 unlike a 700R4 that must be "set".

So what i have done, is open the linkage up to WOT and pull the cable tight.
Problem is when i get on it and dont let off before it shifts to the next gear then the truck shutters really hard
