I never had a nice complete gauge bezel in my truck and trying to figure out to install one correctly do i need to lower the steering column to get the big piece installed?

It makes it easier to remove and install the dash bezel if you lower the steering wheel.

If you have never done this, it's fairly easy.

Remove 4 screws on the panel under the column and remove it (There will be 2 screws on each side of the column). Remove 3 screws on the second panel and remove it. The center of the three screws attaches to the air duct run going to the drivers side vent. This duct run can be removed if it's in the way but I've never had any problem. Once the 2 panels are removed this will allow access to the 2 nuts, 15mm, to lower the steering wheel. Just watch for the very small cable that is attached to the column. It operates the shift selector so when you pull the column down it will move out of position but nothing to worry about.

in the past on mine I have just taken the screws out and then pulled it out enough to were i can pop out the AC duct and then spin the bezel counter clockwise in order to just kind of rotate it out of the dash. No need to drop the steering column. You just have to pry and push a little in order to pop that AC vent out without snapping the bezel.

Just did this yesterday and both ways work.

I always try to do it the easy way and I wind up taking things apart that I shouldda taken apart - but it's not rocket surgery.

Pull the rubber flat ring as high up the steering column as you can - it helps too.

Just be careful if you pull on the quadrant indicator string - I have to use 'Transmission Braille' to tell what gear I'm in for the past fifteen years or so.

I'll fix it someday. (yeah sure! but it keeps the wife from trying to drive it)
