I am replacing the shocks from old Ranchos to Beilstein 5100s. I currently have two shocks on each side of the front. I see in this form that people recommend that I just go with one shock on each side. Do I need to switch out the mounts or can I just use one of the mounts and leave the other one open? Looks like I’m gonna have to make some replacements anyway, as one of my lower amounts are broke.

If you have the welding skills, that is an easy fix. You could clean that up. Use the shock as a spacer and weld it together. Unless you are crazy off roading, it should last just fine. You could plate the top of that one after it is back together.

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, just run one shock on the mount pictured.

Guys…which frame side mount should be kept? I would image whichever is inside the tabs, double shear.

Also if you don’t have a welder I can help. Covina is very close and I need to pay it forward since another CK5 member came out to weld something for me :D

Thank you very much for the advice! I am going to go with one shock on each side of the front.

Double thank you for the offer to weld it back together. I have no idea what I am doing with that. But of course I want to pay for you time and equipment.

Message me a number I can text.
No payment.
@mtnman210 was that you that came over and welded the steering brace in the dark on the dirt? Lol you had the truck with aircraft panel paint job?

When you go with one shock, you will need a shorter bolt at the axle where that bracket is broken. Other than that, it is an easy swap.

Thank you very much! I promise to do the same and pay it forward!!! I sent you a message with my number.

I huge THANK YOU to K85 Octane who came out the house and in heat of the night welded my bracket back to health. More importantly I learned a lot about my Jimmy and where I can make some improvements.

What wealth of knowledge!
