I bought a set of aftermarket gauges.

Where do I install the oil pressure fitting, the tbi needs the factory one im assuming so I cant just block it off, do I need a t fitting? or is there another spot to screw it into

You can use a T fitting in the rear next to the distributor, or you can remove the galley plug just above the oil filter and install it there, some blocks have a place just above the timing cover as well.

fyi the plug galley will require a special socket to remove and heat as thay are in there.

but most tbi trucks i have seen have a gauge sending unit in that port. so if using diffrent than stock gauge then o.k. to remove it.

I removed the sender that was attached above the oil filter. turns out it wasnt even hooked up... soo I discarded that sensor and put my line in, I dont care if the factory gauges dont work, Ive got a set of the iequous or however you spell it.

They are sport comp knockoffs and retail for 98 bucks, with my discount i got them for 66 canadian.

hooked everything up today, work great!

so on a tbi engine you dont have to have the factory oil pressure gauge hooked up to run? i thought it ran thru the fuel pump circut somehow.

On TBI vehicles there is an oil pressure switch that is a back up for the fuel pump relay, as long as that switch see's 5 psi then it will allow the fuel pump to run regardless of if the fuel pump relay is bad or not.

The switch is not needed for the engine to run UMLESS the fuel pump relay goes bad and you don't have a spare to swap in right then.

what does it look like, is it the small version, with the sealed plug at the back of the block? OR is it the larger coned version that was above my oil filter. it had a single fat plug

on the tbi stuff the old gauge port at the top of the block at the back of the intake went to the fuel pump oil switch like scott ( 4x4high ) said.

then the gauge moved to the port above the oil filter .

if you want tbi to run and have aftermarket gauge setup use the oil filter port for this and not the top of the intake rail .

My 89 blazer has a dual purpose 3 wire sender next to the distributor. I hear people talk about a sender above the oil filter but i've NEVER seen one there yet on any TBI truck.
