Hi All,

Recently I broke the side window (cab, not door) in my 89' Jimmy. I went to the pick and pull to get a replacement, and removed what was left of my broken one. My existing weatherstripping and rubber is all intact.

Is there a certain method or procedure to getting the new window to fit securely in that rubber groove? I briefly tried to muscle it in, but that wasn't working too well. I see LMCTruck offers a few tools. Do they make life a lot easier?

Thanks for any advice.

basic blue dawn dish soap and water heavy mix . 1qt water to 1-2 table spoons of soap .

plastic wedge type tool to gide it in .

warm sun on the rubber helps soften it up also .

then center strip the tool helps but if 1 time thing not needed just little time / soapy water / walk it in place . dont pull it to much as it will strech and when you cut off extra it can shrink and leave a huge gap .

Wrap a small rope/twine around the gasket. Start it in one corner and pull the rope. It will pull the gasket over the lip. Will need one or two people to help.

I did this 2 years ago. Starting at post 139. There are different methods mentioned above, but this is how I did it. When you get close to the end......it will finally fall into place. It did take some time but the soap and water helped a lot. I took my time so I didn't scratch the paint or destroy the rubble. You also have to be careful that you don't drop it.

Thanks for the replies! Got the window in last night.... It wasn't very fun.

I basically did what you guys suggested..... Plastic wedge tool, 2x4 and rubber mallet, lubricant, shims, 2 people. Took about an hour and a half. Maybe it would've been easier with newer weather stripping which may be more malleable, but the window is in. I'll definitely be more careful while 4x4ing, because I don't want to do that again!
