Instead of boxing the frame why not do this?

Seems like it would be better than boxing and stiffer. Plus no where for rust to start.

Easier also

Like how a bridge is built. Seems strong to me, except there would be less torsional strength.

Not if you do it on the edge of the C section, it would be like boxing it and putting holes in the plating which is what some do.

what if you use 1/8''x1'' flatbar and use it flat, zig zagged like that on the outside of the c, like mentioned? would it be as strong as boxing? or at least strong enough worth doing?

Yes.
Any truss that triangulates the frame into a box like shape will help.
And that way is less weight.

I'll do it on the inside of the C. 3/16 by 1.5" or something, I think that would be right up to the edge.

A problem would be the brake line going to the rear, I have to run a new one anyways though.

I would run some notches on the back side of the 1.5 for the brake line. Just a quick cut, every piece though.

Why? Just cut strips of the material clean the frame and get welding. Boxing you have to fit the contour of the frame, and I don't have a plasma cutter.

I'd agree on this being a bit of work, but probably no more so than boxing with plate, especially if you don't have a plasma cutter and you've got metal bar like this.

For weight, plate doesn't add much, maybe 150-200 pounds, if you are using the same thickness metal as the 1/2 ton frames.

essentially trussing the frame. it would work, and may be easier for some to do than boxing. plus strip material like that would be cheaper and easier to come by that a full plate to fully box the frame
