I have a K5 from 1989 and I want to remove the instrument cluster.
My guidance is my Haynes book. In here I am told to reach up behind the dash panel and disconnect the speedometer cable by depressing the retaining spring clip and disconnect the wiring harness.
I have disconnected the negative cable on the battery and have removed all the screws.
It is not possible for me to reach up behind the dash panel and disconnect the speedometer cable or the wiring harness. I am not able to see, what I am pulling in.
Anyone have a guidance to remove the instrument cluster with illustrations?
I have attached a picture of the instrument cluster as it is right now.

Easier: Pop the hood, locate the speedometer cable, and push it back into the cab. If you look closely you'll see the cluster housing is just kind of tucked behind the dash sheet metal, you need to wiggle it up/out from the lip. Speedo cable slack will allow you to pull the cluster out far enough to undo the clip from the top.

easy .

hand up on back of speedo head.

feel hard stiff cable housing .

slide up to springy tab and push it to speedo head and have friend pull cable back under hood . or try with free hand if by your self .

then slowly wiggle gauge cluster out with out braking corner mount tab and then you can disc electrical plug by tiping top to you if sitting in seat with pinch tab on each end .

Thanks a lot for the input. I will try it out later today.
