Does anyone have any good methods for insulating wires from heat? I am concerned about the wires going to my starter being so close to my headers. I just installed my transmission and I don't like the current setup.

I noticed the wires on my starter (ones other than the positive battery cable) were lying right up against the exhaust manifold,on my Burb's 6.2 diesel!.:doah:..luckily they didn't melt and short, but now the insulation is rock hard & brittle..gonna have to fix that somehow!..

On my other trucks,I took the red wires off of the starter solenoid that have the fusible links, and took them ouf of the metal conduit pipe next to the exhaust manifold, and instead ran them right to the positive battery terminal, just as GM USED too,on the older 67-72 trucks..why they decided to go to that retarted conduit that often gets hot enough to fry the wires inside,I dont know!..I only need two wires to the starter now--the purple 12 ga, wire to activate the solenoid, and the positive battery cable, thats it..its not hard to route those two in such a manner that they will not rub against the manifold...I've used THNN wire when I had to re-do burned wires at the starter, its insulation resists heat and melting much better than typical wire, and I use 10 ga,instead of 12 ga.
