I have a suggestion - don't use Allstate. They are NOTORIOUS for denying legitimate claims and making lowball offers on claims. They have been by several State Attorney Generals as well as many, many private people in lawsuits for bad faith concerning their claims practices. And, to boot, they are not the cheapest. I know because I deal with them everyday (I am an attorney), I have sued them many times AND I spoke at a seminar in 1999 to the Nevada Trial Lawyers Association about them. The name of the seminar was "Dealing with the difficult insurance company - Allstate 1999". As a result of my speaking and the portion of the book I wrote, Allstate threatened to sue me. Get an insurance company that will take care of you. Use one with a local agent that you can develop a relationship with because he will be likely to get involved and try to help you if you are getting screwed (although even the agents have an incentive to deter claims through bonuses keyed to the number of claims made against policies they have written). You are really taking a chance if you use a direct writer, a company who sells through the mail or computer and has no local agents. You do not have to pay a local agent's commissions, perhaps 15% of a new policy premium and therefore you save money. But when you go to make a claim, you could experience problems with no one to turn to for help and if your claim is just for property damage, you are not going to find a lawyer to help you with the claim (without paying a cash retainer). Hook up with someone who cares more about your business and your referrals than thier bonus. State Farm is not as bad as Allstate. Farmers is not as bad as Allstate. But don't stop there - go with a really good company such as (just my opinion) Country Companies, Hartford, Metropolitan. By the way, Allstate owns CNA, Encompass and several other insurance companies so be sure to ask. This is just my experience and opinions. Also, those stated value policies (I think that is what they are called) where you negotiate the value of your truck BEFORE you insure it is the best way to go. That takes the risk out of it for you but then, you are probably going to pay more for the coverage.
