If you ever get the inclination, check resistance across the two terminals in each of those temp sensors, and post up what the results were, along with the ambient temperature (assuming a COLD engine). Didn't verify this is the "early" temp sender specs, but they look right:
Those definitely look like the GM temp sensors, if they are, would probably save people some money were they needing to replace them, and make wiring a bit cleaner/easier. Not to mention be a valid test of function.
