Since I am going back to school and just became broke. How much power will I really be giving up on a stock BBC if I run a stock intake? My last motor was done at 3950 and the new one is even keeping the stock L29 vortec cam. Is it really worth spending money on something that will only make 10 more hp?

What engine is this? An L29 complete?

The heads are pretty restrictive above 3500 from what I've read...I doubt a better intake would benefit much without some headwork.

L29 with 781s

Those flow better. I have them on my 600hp 454

I know but I am only going to turn it 4000 or so. I just wanted a little more intake runner volume for the lpg gas or it would be getting peanut ports like my current 454.

My tbi 454 has 781 heads L29 cam and edelbrock performer. I have never turned more than 4500, but there is no indication of power falling off. I guess what I am trying to say is that the cam/head combo likes to be revved, and a stock intake might be restrictive.

I know by my 450 cfm carb isn't going to like it. I looked at stock intakes at my machine shop yesterday and all they had were low rise but that may be OK with a gasous fuel. Being that I am just putting it together as a spare it may get one and if I have more money when it comes time I will buy a better intake. I have used 049s (similar to 781s) on my camaro I turn 7k (makes power to 6500 on the dyno) so I know they can move air. I was just using the extra port volume to hold more air fuel since a vaporized gas will take up more space than a atomized fuel like gasoline.

I guess I could use my street warrior peanut port intake but I think the stock one will still have more volume.

For what it is worth I wish I had left my BBC bone stock. Well, maybe the headers would still have gone on but the intake and carb would've been left alone.

With only a 450 carb I wouldn't think the intake would be worth it. Honestly I'm surprised it runs well, my last 454 wouldn't run when I tried to put a known good 600 on it temporarily.

It runs really well. Better with the Qjet but lpg is still just a $1.60.

If it runs well and give you the power you want then leave it alone and enjoy the reliability. That will give you much more enjoyment then trying to mix and match parts for a bit more power. Wow, LPG is that low now?

The current garbage motor runs great even with the decreasing oil pressure. The vortec will only be different in heads and intake. Still crap compression.

It has a horrible performer now. Should have went stock, someday it will have a tunnel ram.

I don't know what you actually WANT to put on there, but I've got a never-run RPM-Performer Dual Plane (Rectangle Port version) that will be coming off my 502.

Powdercoated in Bengal Silver / Clear so that it won't get all yellow and gross-looking over time....

If it helps, I'm sure we could make some kind of a deal on it.
