So I was changing the CDR valve tonight. Sorta made a CUCV/HMMWV CDR valve fit on a C-code 6.2L . Hey, it's what I have.

At any rate, while I had the air cleaner off I got to looking...and I have a healthy amount of oil sludge all over in the inside of the intake manifold. Healthy like the 300lb fat guy calls himself healthy...

It's a diesel so oil in there is normal...but Big Ugly has a black oily film...this is black sludge. I had to scrape and hose it off the air cleaner undersides with brake cleaner.

Infamous EGR valve sticking? Time for a J-code intake?

I'd say very good time for the J code intake. That is likely the cause of the check engine light as well.

So the EGR sticks...open? Then it just vomits oil all over the place?

That or the CDR could be sticking. EGR should be exhaust gases. I've always had J code engines so I'm not familiar with the EGR system.

And if you go looking for a J code intake I have an extra, I just won't be able to pull and ship it for a while with my daughter in the hospital.

Understandable. I'm close to broke the way it is right now anyways. Give me a heads up when you have the time and I'll figure something out.

I don't believe the EGR would cause oil or sludge buildup since it lets exhaust gases into the intake. The CDR not working correctly could definitely let oil blowby in.

Hrmmm...well, has a new one on there now.

Time for a J-code intake.

Interestingly I just noticed the check engine light is off. Guess the CDR was the problem.

If it is working now, I wouldn't be in a hurry to put in a J-code intake, but pick one up for the future when you can swing it.

Yeah, it's on the list.
Still got yours?

Interestingly though I was reading the C to J swap stickied at the top of this forum and my C-code intake doesn't have the same CDR valve and setup as the write up shows.

I still have an extra J code intake on the last M1008 motor sitting on my engine stand. I plan on going through that motor before I wear out the motor in my truck.

Okay. I'll post on here when I have the means to do the J-code swap. Seems like there were just two on the for sale forum.

Okay...now the check engine light is intermittent. Guess I'll have to pull the codes like 6.2 described in another post.

Damn. My light is on(intermittent) and I know I need to replace the CDR in mine. I was hoping that would be the fix after readin your earlier post. I will still replace it and see what happens.

My intake is full of sludgey oil crap also. I am guessing the CDR is the culprit since I am dripping oil out of it.

Still haven't pulled the codes. Got a lot of **** going on as we know.

Seems like the light will usually be off when I start the truck and then pop on sometime during the beginning of the drive. I have seen it shut off occasionally but I'd say it's on most of the time.

Got any CDR's? They're rather hard to find lately.

i thought that was normal..... every time i ever disconnect the line to my CDR the line has a considerable amount of oil in it. liquid oil, not sludge, but yeah, figured all that was normal.

Oil is normal. Even a film. You're sucking oil fumes back into the intake manifold so that would naturally be there. Built up sludge...not right.
