I am assembling my top-end and have a question about the intake manifold gasket.
I have a TBI motor with the stock manifold and the gasket they gave me at the parts store is a FelPro 93317. Everything looks OK except that the gasket has the Rear Restricted Port where the one that came off is open. This is the rear port on the head/manifold that runs across the manifold and leads to the heater core fitting.

Should I find a different gasket, drill out this part of this gasket, or run it as it is?

thanks,
Keith

run it, it's supposed to have it. everyone I've ever seen has it.

Does it affect the heater in any way? Living in Southern California I really need my heater:D actually I do as I take the Fam to Mammoth etc.

thanks,

Don't forget to use silicone to seal the lifter valley ends. From what I have been told, this is the new standard procedure for all small blocks that come in for dealer service. Just throw the rubber(sometimes cork) end seals away and use a good silicone to seal the manifold to the block. I prefer the gray import grade silicone because it hardens up more than the blue or black stuff. Never had the stuff fail in almost 7 years on my Blazer and I run a 400 with an Edelbrock Performer EPS.

Yep, definately toss the end gaskets and run RTV, i like to use Ultra Black. I've been doing this for 22 years now without a hiccup.

Right-on!
I made the mistake of running the end gaskets once.... once!
Thanks for all the advise. Hopefully I can get this thing installed after work today.

I would recommend the Fel-Pro 1204 gasket with open water crossover passages. This is what i run on my TBI manifold. The port size is 1.230" x 1.990" x .060" thick.

I will go with this gasket. Just curious: Could you explain what the open vs closed crossover passage affects? How does the coolant flow through the block/intake?

What do you do about the exhaust heat crossover? Blocked or open?

thanks again,

Exhaust crossover blocking will disable your EGR, so based on your location, I assume that's a no-go.
