I was told that if you don't use a manifold with a rear coolant crossover, that the rear cylinders would run hot. Is this true? If so, can I drill/tap and run a hose between the rear of the cylinder banks on a performer manifold?

Also, steam holes on non-400 heads? Do I just drill holes into the head using a 400 head gasket as a template?

Don't worry about doing a water crossover in the rear. If your cooling system is setup for a big engine i.e. 4 core radiator, fan shroud, 18 inch clutch fan you won't have any heating issues.

Yes, just use the head gasket as a template. The holes are two different sizes so make sure you drill them correctly.
