I am installing a turbo on the 6.2 and wanted to know how you all plumb from the turbo to the intake manifold? what does the stock set up look like and have any of you been creative with it?

Thanks

Which TURBO do you have?
Banks is different from ATS and i don't know if there are more or if you are doing a custom setup.
I could take a pic of my ATS setup, and see if I can put together the Banks and take a pic, it will be later today though not real soon.:D

It is the factory 6.5 turbo. I am getting the manifold and turbo only.

I think this is going to be a little creative upgrade on the truck. The more I read the less I know. gota love a challenge. The last turbo I did was on a Honda civic. we kept bowing head gaskets on the damn thing pumping 20lbs of boost in it.:haha: but it was fun to drive till it went.

Well if you are going to do a custom job, I will try and take pics of what I have got and give you an idea of different setups.
You probably would go with something more like the banks where they use the OEM intake and put a hat on it o boost it.
Unlike the ATS which replaces the intake.

If you are going with a Turbo get an intercooler as well. Plenty of 'em to choose from on eBay. Search this forum for Turbo for ideas and pics:D

I don't have mine built yet but I'm using Peninsular Diesels intake top (changes intake to driver's side, $65. Call to order) So my piping will go from the turbo forward and through the intercooler and come out on the driver's side and up to PD's intake.

just need a round hat that bolts down where the aircleaner goes, with a 2-1/2 tube welded to the side to hook into.

I looked and they are all over ebay. I am also(once the turbo gets here) going to look at the local yards for parts too. From what I have read I heed to make spacers for the manifold to move it out a half an inch to clear my injectors too since I am running an 82.

even though you have the long injectors i dont think that you should have to do that. the turbo sits in between the two center injectors and the pipe should not interfere with either of them.

everything I read lead to having to either change the injectors with Van ones or newer style short injectors because the injector angle causes interference. I will have to look at it.

since you have an 82 your injector choices are limited, you have the coarse thread injectors whereas all the newer trucks have fine thread.

So am I right in the research, I eigther need a couple of short injectors or space out the manifold?

you may or may not need to space it out some, i have read a couple articles of guys doing exactly what you are trying to do. the turbo does come close to the injectors but it seems to vary on how close, i would get the parts and mock it up to see, then maybe decide on how to make more room if you need it. I would see the easiest way being having a shim made to space the turbo 1/2" from the manifold, you might need slightly longer studs to bolt the turbo down, but that should give you plenty of room. I'm just not sure if you even need to worry about it.

the turbo isn't in the way, the exhaust manifold goes against the two center injecters, more than likely you'll need a 1/4" spacer if you can't swap to short injecters.

Yah I know it is the manifold that interferes. I just picked up the parts today. Looks good. I will start tracking down the intake stuff this weekend. I am going to run to Pik n pull.
