Intake question

My Dad had a 63 Chevy with a 305, with a combonation of an Edelbrock Performer Air Gap intake (not the RPM Air Gap) and an Edelbrock 650 CFM carb he said his fuel mileage improved from roughly 12 MPG to around 18 MPG(highway) and he felt some power increases as well. I want to get the same intake but keep the Q-Jet carb. Is anyone running this setup and how do you like it?

That's a pretty significant jump in numbers there. His old carb must have been on it's last leg or improperly tuned. I would expect a little improvement, but not that much, especially on our trucks.

Hey Joe, I'm with fabjunkie on the mileage thing. But I will add that the Air Gap is a nice intake, especially when your not in cold country. Do they make the Air Gap for a q- jet ? ( yes, I should know this ). I hate adaptors.

I think the new air gap that came out is actually a combo style; being both spread and square bore. Don't ask me how that works though.

ive got that manifold and its pretty goood. i couldnt get it to seal though....after three tries i did. as far as fuel milage i went from 10 and now im at 11ish. ITs a pretty good intake, i did feel a power increase as well.

did you use the q-jet or edelbrock carb?

i would advise against an Edelbrock carb. do your homework, and tune a good carb. hell, even a Holley is better than an Edelcrock.
