I know, I know....a noise question. Like you're supposed to diagnose a noise you can't hear from hundreds if not thousands of miles away. :haha:

I can only describe the noise and it's location. I also filmed it.
Here goes:

*Comes from either engine compartment or just under pedal/floor board area.
*Makes noise erratically; when driving, at a stop, cruising, crawling, etc. It could be quiet one second and active the next.
*I have no dash, no speedometer. I do have a brand new Lokar cable that's well lubed, but considering it makes noise when stopped... it's not the cable. I don't have to be moving, though when it's dead cold, I never hear anything.
*Sounds like a crackle, like the sound fire makes. A low crackle pop, like hardcore Rice Krispies. If you have a wooden desk, tap the under side like crazy with your fingernails. It's a little more metallic clattering, but that is the closest sound I can think of. :haha::D

Video: (no, nothing is going to pop out at you. Turn up the volume if necessary:waytogo:)

Oh crap, you've got that noise that is dreaded. The dreaded good luck finding it noise. :D

Seriously, it could be a broken flexplate since you said it will make the noise even sitting still.

Sounds identical to the noise I am getting from my Safari, and I like Scott suspect the flexplate is cracked. Unfortunately there is no way to get to it on the Safari, no inspection cover that I can see, so I pretty much have to pull the trans to verify. Mine seems to be a bit worse when it is cold, and it is very hard to get the sound once the engine/trans is up to temp.

damn, well the broken flexplate would really really suck considering it's a brand new gold HD unit, the thick one and specifically weighted for the 400sb. I put some blue locktite on too. :( I'll check that out tonight, thank you sirs.
