I have an 88 k5 and like everyone else my dash cover is cracked. Now can I take vinyl and use a 3m adhesive and recover it? I also took out my sub and amp (its been in the last 4 vehicles Ive owned) and am thinking about taking the carpet out and puting in a rubber mat floor. I also have an idea about taking the trim from the door to the tailgate and making from aluminum diamond plate. I have some friends in the local welding shops. Has anyone done this and how does it look?

Everything you listed has been done to death. IMO, pay for a membership if you plan to keep your K5 and utilize this site. THere is a wealth of info on here that will answer 99% of your questions. Im not trying to be funny, but the search feature has saved me alot of $$$$$$$ by simply searching and finding the answer so I can Do it myself or found it I had a bad idea cuz others have BTDT>

The rubber matting is fine. I had LMC rubber mat after I pulled my carpet. The mat is heavy and thick and is a PITA to put down. I never was happy with it, so I yanked it out and had my interior LINE Xd , best thing I did. no muss , no fuss. I dont have to worry about anything on the floor or what not.

As far as the dash, I have no idea

As far as the diamond plate, that has been done and it actually looks pretty good. But if you use thick plate, you may need some horizontal supports. THe factory panel is just coverd cardboard. With plating, you can put speakers, invertors or build a door and utilize the space between panel and bedwall, good place to stash stuff.

I dumped my panels after line Xing and it looks way better without the panels and frees up that much more room. I lost my speaker location in back, but will remedy that once I get a cage or roll bar put in.

This is what I did

Get 2 yards of 1/2 inch foam padding use some 3m spray adhesive on the dash as it is, you dont need to strip it or antything
Spray your adhesiv on the dash lay out your foam and press it on till it sticks

The vinyl part is kinda tricky you have to make two regular rectangle peices then a triangle peice for the center(the side of the cluster)

We used some 3/16 bands that look like hog clips to stretch it we didnt even glue the vinyl to the foam.

As for the diamond tred I went to the salvage yard got some busted up running boards for like 10 bucks and used my old dash trim as a template.

the foam makes it fit tighter but also make the curves in the dash alot easier to form.

Ive also made some diamond tred inserts fo my doors where the grab handle is if you want pics of that?

If you do try to do the doors find a thinner diamond tred because there is actually a beveled area at the top of the trim thats a pita if youve got the thicker.

Hope ive helped
