Interior resteration question?

Ok here’s the deal fellas, I have what seems to be a custom interior job in my 81 Jimmy. My seats are doeskin as are my rear panels and carpet. My dash front door panels and headliner are dark brown. The door panels were painted the brown color once before. I got a new Dark Brown Dash and now wish to paint the door panels the same color. What every the person used before me did a good job as it look clean and profession. Now the question? Since the front door panels are hard plastic should I use paint or dye to change their color? In addition what should I use to prep the door panels before painting/dyeing them so the job sticks?

LMC and most places like that sell a specific prduct to use on stuff like that. I think it is a dye... It should have directions on the can for preping....

i would use a dye and to prep it i would wash it down with water and then use rubbing alcohol to do the final cleaning then dye it

Don't paint them! I've done that before. I prepped them all I knew how and in a month it was pealing. I even used a good flexible paint and it still pealed. Just get new ones from LMC like the others said.

You aren't supposed to use regular paint. You have to use a special vinyl dye. Did you use the right stuff?

I need to repaint the faded and scratched up panels in my 79' TA. Who makes this "vinyl" paint? Or what is the proper name for it? I want to repaint the panels the original color, tan.

Most auto parts stores carry vinyl dye. It's usually with the spray paints. You might have to find a car upholstery place to get a color that's an exact mtach.

My interior color change was done two years ago now and after using VINYL paint that I got from Cheyenne Pickup Parts and ACETONE to prep the vinyl before painting, they are still in perfect shape. Like HarryH3 said, you have got to use the proper paint.............makes all the difference in the world.
