In a few months I will be a first time daddy. I own an 86 Blazer that is completely stock minus some 33" tires and had been looking at getting another vehicle that would be more baby/ family friendly. After looking for a few months now I have decided to keep the Blazer and work on its defects.

In the next few months I will be tearing out the soiled and oiled old carpet along with rear interior panels and cleaning it all out. I hope to also add some lizard skin to the whole inside floors, panels and doors.I will eventually buy a carpet kit too. I will also be buying a weatherstripping kit and try to replace all the seals/ strips and make this vehicle a bit better inside. To keep the temperature, cool or warm inside.

Though there are other issues to look at as well. these seem to be the basic things that I can tackle on my own. So the problem I am having is accessibility. Accessing the rear seat is not so easy. Especially since you can only reach it through the passenger side. So has anyone replaced the front seats with sliding and reclining seats. Seats that recline and incline? Seats that will make make it easier to get a baby in and out?

I have looked at some Corbeau Moab seats as they slightly resemble the OEM seats but do not know if these incline forward. I am sure i can get brackets with slider modded to fit the Blazer but does anyone know of any other type of aftermarket seats or seats in general that will keep a clean look and provide easy accessibility to the rear seats.

Thanks,
Suecyde

16 Views and no one has any suggestions? I have been up and down on the interior sub-forum looking for ideas, suggestions or mods... but have found nothing.

I hope that someone can point out something I am missing.

Well, factory Sierra/Silverado seats can be made to fit with only minor modification for the bolt holes. The extended cab versions have the tilt forward function. The early 2000's have integrated seat belts as well, so they would require modification to reinforce the floor. Newer Blazer seats (88-91) at least had a recline and tilt function, including slide forward when tilted. I have no experience with the Corbeaus.

It seems like the interior section sees less traffic.

My 91 passenger seat tilts and slides forward. It will still be a hassle to get your baby into the back seat though, especially if there is a bit of lift to it.

I would feel ok with letting my three year old climb in and then have me buckle her in though.

One thing you may think about instead is to remove the center console and access the backseat between the two fronts. It will still be a hassle, but I think it may be easier than trying to strap in an infant with your feet on the ground outside the vehicle, or jumping in and out all the time.

Are you planning on putting a cage in? Call me paranoid, but then again I only have a soft top right now and don't plan on having the hard top on too often. I'm going to put a cage in anyway, even if I do have the hard top on it will give me some peace of mind. I'm not doing anything offroad, but I'd hate to have anything happen if I can prevent it.

Thank you for the replies. Yea it is kinda slow in here. I mostly lurk as I have no real experience, skill or trade in auto mechanics or related areas. I am on here often... trying to read and learn a bit.

I am limited on what I can do, so I am trying to do what I can to make this change in my life a bit easier. I understand that moving an infant in and out of a 2 door vehicle will always be a challenge and for this reason I am looking for anything that will make it easier but not make the Blazer look Ghetto Fabulous.

I am not worried much about the vehicle safety. I will make sure that the vehicle has tuned brakes and steering. These are my only two safety concerns. As for collision.... I feel safer in the Blazer than anything else. All metal vs. new tin = I WIN.

Thanks for the seat suggestions, at least now I know what seats to begin to look at.
