What could cause my 4.3 in my S10 to occasionally burn oil? About 6 or 7 months ago, it started smoking pretty badly at idle, a little worse if I revved it a bit. I could not see any smoke while actually driving down the road. It did this for three days, then it just quit smoking the next morning and has been fine since. Until tonight, that is. I noticed it smoking again when I pulled into the driveway when I got home from work. Why does it not burn oil constantly? The oil level never seems to go down on the stick.

Are you sure it's oil?

My truck was pulling oil through the PCV valve after I replaced the valve covers. It takes very little oil to get a lot of smoke.

Yes, it's definitely oil that's burning. I can't remember when the PCV was last replaced, or if it even has been. I guess that would be a good place to start, huh?:doah::crazy:
