89 burb. TBI. Big block. Last week it stumbled a couple times. Today it's doing it bad . It's like the engine shuts off.

I'm leaving for KOH tomorrow and can't work on it till about 5:30. Parts stores close at 6

Ignition module? Coil?

Quick glance says nothing is loose.

Gotta get this done my wife can't have mechanical issues when I'm gone.

Truck randomly shuts down for a half second, then picks back up.

Fuel pump. Does it run good for awhile then have issues, eng off wait a bit then runs good for time?
If it quits like someone turn the key off ,prob ignition module.
if runs ok for a time then cough sputers then stalls fuel pump.
If runs poor misses underload then plugs wires cap rotor.

When my 89 was doing that it turned out to be the pick up module in the distributor .
I had changed everything else and it didn't fix it so I sent the part with the truck to @ryoken and he changed it and it was fixed

Check the wires that go from the starter to the fuse power block on the firewall. I had a short from one of those wires to the exhaust manifold. Truck ran great and then it would act like you turned the key off for a split second and back on. Basically the engine would "hiccup"

I don't think it's fuel pump. Doesn't stumble. Shuts off.

Does it cold, warm whenever. Mostly under load.

I might be able to do some stuff in the AM just got it in the shop gonna pull the distributor

When I changed out the distributor in my 89, the pick-up coil wires looked really bad. Wire insulation was cracked in many spots, rusty, and missing the plastic connector on the end that plugs into the module. If your going to pull the distributor, you might as well either get a whole new one, ready to drop in (saves more time) if your in a hurry, or rebuild your current one with new pick-up coil, new ignition module, cap and rotor. Check condition of the spark plug wires and make sure the wires are not touching any hot part of the engine, especially the exhaust manifolds. Burnt wires will cause stumbling on hard acceleration. Use A/C Delco parts. Make sure the positive lead on the starter solenoid is snug. DO NOT over tighten it. You will crack the plastic on the solenoid. Also make sure battery leads are snug at the battery.

Well boys I can't find anything wrong. My local parts stores doesnt have any disty parts except cap and rotor.

I didn't pull the disty just the cap. It all looked dandy. So who knows .

I have a backup plan for my wife though. So hopefully nothing goes wrong.

Yeah I thinking about this distributors, small cap, I remember we replaced them regularly. Gm would only sell parts to fix, not whole new. We have shaft bushing issues. We found GM Performance sold a whole ready to go with cap and rotor.
Wish the Wife luck, and safe travels to Koh, trying to see if I can get up there for a day not looking good thou.
