Internal fuel filter question.

So I dropped my gas tank today as my truck has been sitting for two years and I needed to get the old gas out. When I took the send unit out, I noticed the filter on the send unit was cracked and had some holes.

Can I order a replacement filter for it or do I have to order a whole new send unit?

You can buy a new sock. They are cheap.

So I checked around for a replacement sock. It seems to be a no go. Went to several auto parts stores and to the local GM dealer. They all showed replacing the whole sending unit. Any ideas on where else I could look? Or perhaps any inventive ideas on how to repair it?

Fuel pump strainer is $10 from Autozone. It is part number FS3 or FS1, and they are both the same price. I ran it using a 90 Blazer, but they should be very similiar for all years. Running without a sock can allow contaminents into the pump and will cause premature failure of the pump. That sock prevents particulates from getting into the pump causing wear.

Edit: I will point out that it is called a Fuel Strainer.

If it is a carbureted application, where the sock/strainer fits on the end of the pickup tube, you can use a Delco #TS1000 or a GM# 5651702.
