Introductions & Greetings

Sand Mountain GMC

Hey guys, truck is a 1987 Chevy V 1500. When I got it all electronics were removed and a carb was installed. Bad motor bad ball joints bad transmission. since then I've put new ball joints a running motor rebuilt transmission 700r4 manual valve reverse body. love my old truck. Future plans are 6.0 also paint and body full resto eventually as I want this to be a daily driver. Gotta have a/C too... all that was removed before I got it... 3 weeks ago I installed a 3" block lift in the rear, 3 days ago 2.5" lift springs up front. Next purchases are Rancho shocks... ( unless ya'll benter educate me ) ... and extended brake lines. Also need recommendations on bump stops for my setup. Anyway.... that's me

Personal cliff notes... Husband to hot wife, father of 4 girls, Pastor of a great church, loves to be outside, and/or wrenching....

Hey guys n gals perhaps. im new, ill end up having a bucnh of questions and end up trying to find a bunch of parts for my 72 k10. has 9" of lift currently, i hope to pull the 3" body off and run 56's up front with crossover and a shackle flip out back so im searching for more advice and used parts atm until i afford all the nice new stuff further down the line.

Hello from Fort Collins. 96 GMC Suburban K1500

Hi there everyone, just bought a 96 Suburban K1500. Body has ~260k, motor 90k, tranny 10k.

Leather interior's a bit thrashed but should clean up nice. Body's in great shape.

Lot's steering slop and feels like the brakes need bleeding. Needs tires.

New here...

53 yr old , looking to get back into camping/ fishin' ( been busy with my business stuff ) ... googled stuff on axles , etc... and found your forum. Looking to learn stuff about chevy's, but am not a total newb to wheeling, etc. ... used to have a lifted locked yota, 5:29's, 35's etc. but am a newb to diesels...

so have gotten a 86 K20 suburban and here are the specs....

86 chevy suburban K20 3/4 ton
6.2 diesel with banks sidewinder turbo kit

6"lift on 315 Dean mud terrains with tons of tread left. 4 in turbo back straight pipe. 4.10 gears, TH400 transmission with upgraded shift kit. HD front bumper.

Repairs / upgrades within last 5000 miles
injection pump
timing set
water pump
thermostat
heater core
radiator hoses
LED dash lights
Manual glow plug controller (automatic still wired in)
Newer tailgate (old one was dented)

Repairs / upgrades within last 500 miles
New 925CCA batteries
All new battery / starter cables with extras added in for better cranking / charging
New electric fuel pump and relay (makes fuel filter changes much much easier)
New motor and trans mounts\
Coolant flush and fresh ELC coolant

The bad
Needs a windshield and steering column
Front passenger window most likely needs new motor and / or regulator.
No headliner, dash is cracked, interior overall has seen better days.
Good sized dent in rear passenger side corner and some other small dents.

So I m here to learn about this truck and enjoy doing so in the process !

Enjoy Your Day !

Hey names Matt. New to the site but not to Chevy trucks!! I just bought a 1975 K5. Kind of a turd but ill fix that over time!! may need some help and have plenty of questions as Ive been out of the truck/hot rod game for a while now!! Years ago I had a 1969 K5 & my then girl friend now wife loved it, so when i tried to talk her into letting me get a late model vette she just laughed!! So what do you do when you have 2 toddlers and a 100lb dog... Another full convertible K5!!

onedaatmc, nice platform to start with.

Martin

Thanks ! I thought it was ... I looked around for something that was mechanically sound and had the right stuff ... and although I know that the 6.2 is a slowpoke, with the added turbo it makes a difference... also the paint and stuff isn't something I really care about because I'll be using it for camping and fishing and didn't want to have to wory about scratches, etc... but will do a little painting here and there with mostly satin rustoleum or baed liner paint ...

Will do!! after barrowing my buddies blown 09' C6 for a weekend I was ruined!!! Thing made around 675hp to the tires and was a blast to drive but my wife was right i wouldn't have got to use it much with both of my kids wanting to go were daddy goes on the weekends! This way I got the rare and unheard of approval for a purchase!!! Can't tell you the last time she was ok with a toy for me!!!

Happy wife happy life!!!

Thanks ... I thought it would work ! ... don't care about something shiny and new, nor do I care about 50" tires, rockwell axles, atlas t-cases, and the like... thats was in my yota crawlin' days of my youth ... to me its all about something to get to that fishin' hole and campsite with and a nice back of the burb for my full size regular mattress to sleep in !... and as I'm done from wheelin' the rubicon, I'm also done with tents ... Ha

Campfire, I sent you a friend request cause I'd like to ask questions from time to time if thats cool ?

Ok. My truck is pretty much stock, and I'm not sure how much I really wanna change. It already does just about everything as it is...

Start a build thread.

Martin

Definitely.

Start a build thread.

well ok ... but how do I do that ...? just start a new thread button instead of a new post ?

I did just find out the ac isn't working and missing the compressor , but has all the electrical, etc... is this a hard fix ? I googled compressors that fit this 6.2... and there about $325 ... or do you think a used one from the junk yard is the way to go ?

go to the sub-section in the Garage known as "the driveway"... than upper left "start new thread".... add a title, always good to have it be descriptive for you, maybe year of rig, name, build-style or something.... look at the other titles for ideas...

A cool name is a must. :)

I, for example, have decided to name my diesel trucks after dragons. Because they roar and belch smoke from time to time. ;)
