Gotta get the beast driveable before i can do any lifting. but i wanna do a 4" (shackle flip/lift for cheap). hopefully it'll run. total money invested so far is $995

Hello Men, I'm from Medford OR. My project is black 87 K5, currently stock with the exception of an $1800 (ouch!):frown1: rebuilt 700-r4. In my garage waiting for more funds is a 454, dana 44, and 14bolt. It is a daily driver right now, thank goodness work is only 3 miles away! After purchase of a cheap commuter car my plan is for lots of power, big tires and strong axles, kind of like everybody else. My question is how will the axle swap go? Axles are out of 75 chevy pickup will they bolt right up, or will I need to make modifications? I'm sure this question is asked a lot but I thought this would be quicker than searching through threads. Also I have a nice set of Centerline rims 16.5x9.75, (yeah I know 16.5" sucks but I got them all for $100) and I want to run 35x16 boggers or 40x17 ground hawgs. I'm pretty sure the hawgs will fit but is the rim too narrow for the boggers? Happy to be part of CK5, the forum is awesome.
Thanks A Lot!

Welcome, The Blaze! Your plans sound very similar to what I'm doing with my '88 Suburban, including the $1800 700r4 (which, so far, I'm glad I did). The axles should bolt right in, as long as the rear is from a 3/4 ton truck. A conversion u-joint is needed to use your stock rear shaft though, NAPA #447. Good deal on the rims, I don't think they will be too narrow ;)

Thanks for the part # on the U-joint USSkoval. I thought I had read somewhere that a tire that wide needs at least a 12" wheel, but maybe that is just the recommendation though

Help!! I joined this site for one main reason. My name is Michelle and in November of 2007, my 1974 blazer was stolen, I need technical help, I believe I have found my truck but I need to know where the vin number is located besides the driver door jam and the dash. Is there one on the frame? under the dash? My truck was very distinct and recognizable, I've had that truck for seven years and know every nut and bolt, rust spot and dent inside and out. I'm 98% sure this is my truck but the vin on the dash and door jam have been replaced, cops arent willing to halp and now, two weeks after I had the cops pull this truck over the "owner" is selling it. I need to know anything specific that would help. I know that full removable tops stoped being manufactured around sept. of '75, besides taht? anything you can contribute is greatly appreciated. Wish I had found this site while I still had mine=) Thanks -Michelle [email protected]

Have the cops check the VIN that was put on, to make sure the year number matches the truck. And if the original parts are on the vehicle there is a build date number located on a tag on the front face of the transfer case. Some of this might help.

I know you said the cops are no help, but try calling the state patrol, and then talk to the officers that do the VIN verifications. Not sure about your state, but in Colorado, anything from out of state has to be driven to a few specific state patrol shops to have the VIN verified, those officers should be able to help you find out about any other vin's on the frame or body. Another thing might be the actual rivets that hold the VIN tag, they are available, but not common, they are sometimes brand and era distinctive.

As a last resort, call a local tow company, we often had to look for VIN info on recovered steals and abandoned cars, some are pretty good at knowing where it might be on a frame or firewall. I drive big wreckers, so I don't remember where to look for sure myself, sorry.

Do you have any old pictures, good ones, showing dings and dents, or similar rust damage, anything that might be unique to yours, then call the state patrol again, if they won't help, call any radio or TV station investigative reporter, see if they will help, at least they might go over and film the blazer before he sells it, then he's on camera, and try to get the VIN it's currently showing, so you can keep track of it later.

Did you have anything, stereo, lights, aftermarket brakes, clutch, anything that you have a receipt for that only you could know the brand of, on it? Even somthing as simple as old wiring or speaker wires that olny you'd remember being there? An old soda or coffee stain that you could never clean up?

Sorry to hear about your baby getting swiped, I got my storage unit robbed last winter, lost tools, cd's/dvd's, and my buddies brand new bike, cops tried but storage unit's security was worse than useless, doubly agravating because we are sure they were just rolled to another unit, and the video was useless, we probably drive right past our stuff getting to my unit each time.

Thanks for all your input and help. I'm kinda at a loss, I could let this envelop me more than it already has and let it eat away at me more, or let it go. I'm to the point of having to let it go, my sisters boyfriend acted as an interested buyer and took the truck for a test drive today. There's just no way of being 100% sure at this point, this truck has kept me up a good number of nights, just being enraged, anymore, why should I be so enraged when this is just an inatimate object. I miss it terribly, which in it self is ridiculous, but its time to move on. Anyway, thank you again for your help, be safe and take care in Iraq, when you get home get a dodge diesel=) if anything, atleast you have the 7.3L, but ?? -Michelle

It was the best I could think of, any off the wall idea that might help. I hate that feeling of powerlessness, can't find the right person(s) to wrap your fingers around the neck of.

I think I'll stick to my ford (GASP), I was a chevy/gmc fan all my life until I spent 5 years in a ford superduty service truck, it was about 14,000 lbs, first year of the powerstroke's, and it took an incredible beating, ran perfect, cab fit and finish at 150,000 miles were great, so when I went shopping for an "I've been divorced a full year" present to myself, ford was my only choice. At least even if mine has the smaller injectors and turbo (FOR NOW, JUST WAIT AND SEE!!!), I've got the forged rods and some better internals, and it AIN'T a 6.OH OH (hehe)

Best of luck with the search, hope you can either find it or find one to take it's place.
