Introductions & Greetings

Newbie from NYC

Hello to all fellow K5ers. I've been browsing this site for a while now. But, I never got around to formally introducing myself. So here goes..My name is John, I'm 35 yrs young with 2 beautiful daughters that love my trucks just as much as I do or more. I'm currently working on and using my daily driven 91' GMC Jimmy SLE (full size), 5.7L 350, 4x4, auto trans. I picked up this truck for the same price that it would cost to buy just one BFG 35" A/T tire:eek1:. $200 bucks!! The truck came with plenty of goodies installed such as a custom 4" lift, 33" BFG A/Ts mounted on MT Alcoa 15" wheels, Axle trusses (F/R), custom lighting, lund moon visor, custom roof console, dual battery setup, class III hitch receiver, custom rear axle, custom CB and antenna wiring, Trailblazer Offroad lighting (8 forward, 2 side & 4 rear facing 55w lights)(Extremely rare now) on custom fab'd mounts. The trucks drivetrain is mostly stock, but not for too long. I want to mention that the previous owner did great work on this truck. The love he had for it showed in his craftsmanship. Kudos to him for not creating another hacked up K5. His work is all pro and done in good taste, function and style. His only mistake was allowing the truck to sit for 3 years. So now it has some cancer in a few places. But, I own it now! It will be restored to its original glory and beyond. I will post pictures ASAP. IMO, I scored BIG TIME when I got this truck. I still don't believe I paid so little for so much. I just registered the truck for the first time since I picked it up in Aug of 2007. Wish me luck folks. I'll be haunting the forums frequently and asking lots of questions, as well as, sharing my own expertise.

I've owned a '87 GMC Jimmy (full size), '85 3/4 ton 4x4 Suburban, '93 GMC Z71 Ext cab with 5 speed, '83 K5 Blazer, '84 Chevy custom deluxe C20 P/U, and a few others. I also worked on many 6.2L CUCVs and HUMMVs. Im a Heavy Wheeled Vehicle mechanic(63W) in the Army, proudly served over seas, and looking forwards to sharing my knowledge and adventures with all the good folks here on CK5.:smile1: Stay tuned for pictures of my 91' Jimmy....

Thanks again to the Admins and Mods for making this the best site for K5's on the net. No other site like this one IMO.

Been lurking for awhile,Have a 72 cst blazer ,got quite a few factory options believe to be a recovery vehicle from colorado, obtained it 15 years ago from a friend going thru a divorce, has 350 th 350,3:73's rear posi, tilt wheel, tach dash, gm rear heater and line supports below bed look factory as another member posted pics of his.dual battery trays, glove box light, dual dome lights, air, rollbar, but no tow hooks.Anyways i semi restored it 15 years ago and bought the front and rear qtrs(2 pieces)from lmc on both rear qtrs from lmc and welded them up th middle to make one qtr.Well the winters got too them last year and am getting some bubbling in the welded seam, got hit by 2 ef1 tornadoes this summer and insurance came thru and gave me enouhg to buy 2 goodmark shortbox box sides to try to shorten up and put on,got offered more than i think it was worth after the tornado, hailstorm but couldnt part with it ,love the ol thing, even though its taken alot of my time and patiance due to the previouse owner not maintaining it at all,all the promblems happened when i got it,The qtrs had alot of bondo in them and some lower rust,no rockers.Anyways it was a rust bucket put new gastank, windshield, front floors ,rockers, lower frt fender patches ,rear qtrs, tailgate ,doors, weatherstipping rebuilt motor, trans ,and put seals in 205 case, rebuilt 12bolt clutchpac, new rear shaft, rebuilt every part on front axle, new brakes ,black diamond 4" suspension lift,33.10.5 15 goodyear mt's.funn ride i really enjoy but really sucks the gas.I tried to rebuild the ngine to get mileage but failed i get 12-13 with a comp 268 cam 487x casting heads and flattops.Glad to be on board hope this is what i was supposed to do here.Jeff 1972 k5 cst

Hello from Northern Utah

HI! :D

I'm Andrew, and I live in Cache Valley at the top of Utah. I have a 79 Toyota Hilux that I have spent the last 8 years of my life wheeling and upgrading. I've been through almost all of the level 4+ and higher trails in Moab, and have also made several 1000+ mile treks through Wyoming and Montana in this pickup--It's seen a lot.

Anyway I joined today because for the last year or so I've been having this urge to build a full size and it will not go away. My Toyota is just plain beat to crap, and is far from ever being street legal again so I'm thinking about starting fresh with something new.

I for sure want to start a street legal diesel truck and a Dana 60 front axle under leaf springs. I have a 92 W250 Cummins, and an 85 F250 6.9 IDI, and I daily drive the Dodge so I'm really thinking about tearing into the Ford (I didn't just say that on a GM forum did I??? :doah:). Anyway I haven't seen too many diesel fullsize trucks on the trails, and I'd really like to find out what suspension will hold the weight and also ride smooth. Sorry I'm starting to ramble now...

Anyway there seems to be a ton of usefull threads here so I'll probably be doing a lot of searching.

New from Michigan

Howdy, newbie from Michigan. I'm a sand dune addict with 6 chevy trucks and just bought my first blazer. It's a cucv M1009. I've wanted a blazer project for years and finally have one. I was looking for a fuel injected k5 but couldn't turn this one down.

Hello,
My name is Frankie and I live in Chico, Ca...I have been doing research on this site for a couple of days now and decided to join so I can post progress and some questions on some of my builds...Thank you!

Denis here I had an 87 Jimmy back in 87 and missed it. So I went out and found a replacment K5 bought it about 3 months ago. Have not tore into it yet but it needs lost of TLC. Being In Massachusettes there is some floor board rot but body was redone at some point. It has been fitted with a plow but the frame is solid and not twisted.

Welcome to CK5, stop in and say hello, this is a great place to make your first post and tell us a little about yourself/truck. :D

Hi, my name is Andrew. I'm an senior in high school with a passion for off-roading. I just got a 1982 Gmc Jimmy for a school muddin project. It has alot of floor board rot(practically stand in it with the doors shut)! It has a 350 in it with a 79' camaro intake and carb on it. My plans with it is to lift it 4" and put 35's on it. I'm always looking for advice for this project. I also want some opinions on what to do this truck for muddin.

Hello, long story short, grew up in S. IL. around 44" on Chevys and Fords, left to military, 90 went to Saudi to work, Owned 3 blazers (78-88), put 3" lifts and 33's and lockrights, blew all lockers out on dunes, Crashed on on a dune, turned blazer into 4x4 dunebuggy. I stripped 2 of them down bolt by bolt, so I have experience in takin them apart piece by piece to the frame. I do all work myself. Now, I wanna make a dana 60'd F/R locked, 5.13 geared, 42" tires, roll cage tied to frame, cut fender, no carpet, no inner fendered, top off beast, with winch, with 205, turbo 400 HD, and 383 motor. The goal is to make what I made in Saudi and that was a basic fun truck, Hell I even took out the dash in that one and rewired it with my own wire harness. I need suggestions so fire away. I will brace up the frame where needed and sheetmetal will be cut. Will give it a Flat "Sand Dune" color paint job with black steel wheels and then only 2 bucket seats and I'm done. Rear door will be gutted. Need suggestions.
