Introductions & Greetings

Hello all!!

Name is Sid and I am currently living in a town called Hutto, TX (right northeast of Austin). About 1 1/2 years ago I ran across a '71 K5. It already had 35x12.5 BFG's on it. Past owners already took a torch to the fenders to allow for these tires and did a shackle flip. I am planning on doing a proper suspension lift soon. Prob a 6" suspension and a 3" body. At least that's the plan. I am new to the 4x4 world but this 71 Blazer of mine threw me right in there.

Welcome to the forums!

Not to knock the idea, but I was just curious of why you wanted a 3" body lift and a 6" suspension lift?

I may be incorrect here (please correct me if I am wrong) but if the PO did fender modifications and your intent is to run 35s as it has on now, if it is not rubbing, why would you lift it higher? If you want more ground clearance, wouldn't it be better to do suspension lift alone? A body lift really only serves to raise your center of gravity (as far as I know) and to make the truck look bigger without actually modifying the suspension or drivetrain.

Yeah it does rub when you're not on the street. The suspension lift is first and foremost. Maybe 2" blocks with it, intead of the body lift. The body mounts are probably dry-rotted so might as well gain some tire clearance while replacing them. All ideas right now. Doesn't both types of lifts raise the center of gravity?

Hi guys,

I live in Vancouver, B.C. and signed up as a member because it looks like I'll be buying an 85 blazer with 4" suspension lift and 35" tires. Of course I wanted to do my research first. I've got to thin out the junk pile/driveway of a couple of samurais (I might keep my long wheelbase one), and cherokee pretty quick here before my wife divorces me.

There's lots of good reading on here, and lots to learn.

Good afternoon, Colorado5 and everyone on this forum! My name is Dave and my wife and I live in Guernsey, Wyoming. I bought my K5 Blazer in 1996 and ran it as my DD for around 8 years before we bought our '98 Tahoe. Wouldn't you know it, the Tahoe expired before the Blazer. My Blazer has 217,000 miles on it and still runs great, despite the underpowered 305 (it does have an Edelbrock 4 BBl w/an Edelbrock performer manifold and HEI Hi-PO ignition system; no computers for me!). I always wanted a K5 ever since one kicked my butt on Fairfield Road near Lander, WY. I was in my friend's 1947 Jeep and thought no one could catch me! Just about the time I had to back off 'cause of the terrain, I was passed by a '76 Blazer, and I was hooked! Anyhooooo, just thought to introduce myself to you all and I'm glad to find a thread that knows how to appreciate good old American Iron! God bless all, 'cause I gotta go and sight in my .270 Win. for Elk & Deer season, which just started around here.

Welcome aboard, I miss the Elk and Muley hunts I used to do when I lived in Nevada. I used to hunt Northern Nevada around Ely,Elko, and Jack Creek.

Hello to all, i am Kris from SC and 36 years old. i bought a 91 burb last year. This is the chevy that i have owned. i have been a toyota man since i was 16 and built several. but now married with kids the extra cab 4x4 just wasnt big enough.

So with that out of the way so far i have removed the 10 bolts and replaced with an D44/14BFF and 8 inches of lift and 37" mickey ATZ's.

looking forward to meeting you all.

Good morning, dbabicky! Our Son-in-law hails from Minnesota, so we have some appreciation for the winters you folks get up there. As far as the hunting goes, I have heard that there is in the works a program to re-introduce Elk to Minnesota and neighboring states. I don't know if it came to pass, but that would be great if it happened. Hunting was one of the primary reasons I bought my '85 Blazer. I swear it would climb trees if I could drive better! We are retired now on a fixed income, but are doing well here in a small community with great people and are truly blessed by the Lord in all things! Hope to harvest a big bull Elk this fall, and I'm sure the Blazer will play a big part in whatever I do get. God bless all and have a great Fall!

hello from st.louis

Am new owner of a 1980 chevy blazer. I am trying to restore it. My grandpa owned a 1980 jimmy, and I owned it after he passed. I traded it it 10 years ago, regretted it ever since. I bought this blazer, couldn't find a jimmy of same year, but it looks the same, complete with the red and white seats. The exterior is black, but i will eventually repaint it two tone red and white, just like grandpas. Has lots of rust, but I have time to work on it.

Hello!

My name is Ryan. Im recently out of college. Went to Syracuse University. Now Im a mechanical engineer at a company that does large industrial equipment and turn tables. Its helpful to have that kind of welding capability at my disposal.... plus all the scrap metal. Got rid of my Toyota Tacoma and found a 73 blazer with an amazing 454. The motor alone was worth what I paid for it. Now Im looking to fix the dents, new seats, dash, installing a sound system, POR 15'ing it so it will never rust and repainting it.... general cleaning up. Its a really fun truck and I needed a new project. Id love to post a photo of it, but my rights are still limited because Im new.
