72 k5 custom

Hey guys, been lurking for a few years, never just signed up till now. I'm in Norcal in the hills heading up towards Lake Tahoe. Having a few issues with my truck. Hoping to find some direction from anyone who knows a little or much more than I do. My truck has been parked for a couple years, I've just last week brought it into my garage to try and see why it won't start up. The last time it had a battery in it it fired right up, just was low on tranny fluid of course so it would not move, seems like they all leak. I put a new battery and fuel filter, but it only fires for the split second after it gets the fuel I pour into the carb. Mind you I am not a mechanic I'm in construction. This truck has been mine for nearly 20 years. New crate motor with Edelbrock intake and carb, Thorley headrs and dual Flowmaster exhaust dumped right behind the mufflers, rebuilt 350 tranny also. Basic 4 inch lift with some Alcoas (I know old school :)) It's been over ten years since I really did anything to it under the hood, I just never had a hard time starting it till now.

I'm Jeremy the irishmountain man. I'm a owner of a 1979 GMC Jimmy lots of mods done to it. and now ready to put it to the road and mountains. Its not pretty by any means but thats the way I like it. I dont mind scraches or dents. Its just a look . But the engine best purrr and rumble. Nice to meet you all. I hope we can trade info on our rigs and possibly do trail runs and meet and greets. O and I'll have pics up real soon ;)

Sounds as though the jets in the carb and or the needles and seats are gummed up. I would rebuild the carb and do a light tune up. its also possible that the cap and roter are wet with condensation. A sitting rig is a rig waiting to die.

Hey guys!

Finally getting my own account after relying on samsterman99 to look everything up for me for the 1/2 year I've had my truck. Got a 76 Blazer, all the rights things wrong with it and all the right things right. Runns perfectly, and nothing else works at all! Glad to finally be a part of the community.

Hi my names Jeremy and like the Jeremy from a few posts before I also drive a 79 Jimmy. My wife and I bought her last December. Mostly shes a project truck for awhile until we can put more money in. The truck runs well with the exception of a hard cold start. It's just got a long list of other things that it needs done so for the most part it's been sitting around. Well I keep coming across this site so I thought I'd start posting and contribute here. :pimp:

New M1009 Owner Here

My first Chevy, and a diesel at that. Look forward to all the good wisdom here.

Thanks !

I've been using my 72 Blazer for a daily driver now for about a year. I'm just an old guy looking to keep my k5 original as possible, lol. About to do a frame off as soon as I can get my other daily driver squared away.

I bought this truck in CO. with little rust and it was complete, had a 305 which I swaped in a crate 350/290hp added wheels and tires and drove it this past year.

Will be doing a lot of reading and learning from this site and hope to have this thing back on the road in the next year.

New Member from New Hampshire

Hello, this is Gregg from New Hampshire.

My first C/K was a 1977 C1500 GMC I bought in 1984. I used it for towing my drag car and when doing so, it had a 350/TH350/4.11 posi, dual exhaust. It was a great truck and responded to duties which should have been beyond it's means but it really never let me down. I bought it with 79K, I think, and I put perhaps 200K on it over ten years. I don't know for sure as I had many clusters and speedo heads in it. I sold it to a friend in 1994 who put unknown miles on it. It was again for sale in 2004. I am unsure of the destiny since then. The downfall was that I live in the northeast with my own property that needs snow removal.

My current work-horse is a 1983 K30 SRW pickup, standard cab. Equipment as follows:

350M LT9 HD emissions motor
TH400 Transmission
NP205 transfer case with syncronizer for shift-on-the-fly automatic hubs
4.10 Dana 60 front axle
4.10 14B FF rear axle with Posi
Dual 20 Gal tanks
Cargo lamp
G60 Auxiliary rear leafs
9400 GVW
9' Fisher Plow
Class III hitch
and more I an't think of.

Projects:
1983 K2500 GMC 8600 GVW HD Emissions 350M motor, TH700R4, dual tank, 4.10 gears.
1973 Cheyenne Super 30 Camper Special Z82, std. cab, Dually, Dana 70HD rear with POWR-LOK, dual tanks.
1986 CUCV M1008.
For Sale:
1976 Silverado C-30 Camper Special Z81, no motor or trans, body rusty, good frame, Dana 70 4.10 Dually.
And lots of parts.

If I find I can and how to, I will add info and image to signature.

Gregg

New member with his first K5

Hi everyone,

Just bought my first K5 yesterday and I will soon begin restoring it to a casual offroader/camper/beach-goer very soon. It's an 86 with the 6.2 diesel engine. It was formerly used as a radio truck out here at the local air force base and more recently was used for a hunting truck. I have quite a bit of experience working on old Chevy's but this is my first diesel. My first step will be to get the gauges working so for now I am in the market for new dash assy, speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge and a couple battery gauges. I'll post some pic's of the "sweet" camo paint job later. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

D.W.
