Introductions & Greetings

Hi everyone,

Just bought my first K5 yesterday and I will soon begin restoring it to a casual offroader/camper/beach-goer very soon. It's an 86 with the 6.2 diesel engine. It was formerly used as a radio truck out here at the local air force base and more recently was used for a hunting truck. I have quite a bit of experience working on old Chevy's but this is my first diesel. My first step will be to get the gauges working so for now I am in the market for new dash assy, speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge and a couple battery gauges. I'll post some pic's of the "sweet" camo paint job later. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Navarre is where JAWS 2 was filmed...just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water...

William McCall from Augusta, Ga. I had a '73 K5 in High School passed it down to my brother who immediately broke the frame jumping it..Well 20 years later I just bought a '89 K5 running for $800...Took it to the car wash to clean off the mud to see what I was dealing with...Pleasantly surprised...ZERO rust ANYWHERE...Well, the only pieces of my '73 that are now usable are the full convertible top and the front window header..That is what brought me to this site...I am going to replace the full convertible top from the '73 and put it on the '89...

Hey all, new to the forum from Colorado Springs. Chevys started with a 87 Burb 1500, 84 K20, 82 C10, 2003 Duramax 3500, now a 87 Burb 3/4 ton. Currently a 350/sm465/np208 with a 14bff with a turd 8 lug 10 bolt up front. 9in lift with 37s. Shopping for 38.5-40s, a d60, and a nv4500. Looking forward to adding to the community what I can!

Hey guys. I'm Kevin, 30, from Va. I'm actually an old member here. I was Kevin108 but I couldn't remember the password and the e-mail account I registered with doesn't exist anymore.

I have an 87 Silverado longbed 4x4. I've had my old truck since 02. In 05 I bought a new car and parked the truck. I sold the car in 08 and went back to driving the truck daily, doing nothing except an oil change. I bought an 00 Cherokee in 09 and it's in need of an engine. Once again, I'm back in ol' reliable.

I've got 22,000 on the odometer now. I was at 85,000 when I bought it but given the condition and age, I'm guessing I'm working on my 3rd rotation of those first two numbers. I was basically zeroed out when I put in a Jasper engine. 5,000 miles later I had the 700R4 rebuilt so the big expensive stuff should still be like new.

The passenger side tank had a huge rust hole in it and the fuel pump on the driver's side tank quit a few weeks ago. I dropped both, put the good pump from the PS in the DS and I'm running on it for now. I have a new AC Delco pump sitting in the floor board and a new tank will be here this week, both from Rock Auto.

It's hard to remember back to everything that's in the truck but I know it has an ORD bolt-in steering box brace, the biggest Modine radiator I could get, a Hypertech chip, a K&N filter, a 4" Skyjacker lift and 35" MT/Rs on 15" aluminum rims.

I've got a few parts tucked away at my parents' place I want to get to as soon as I can. I've had all this stuff for years and never took the last step of getting new rims and putting it all together. Waiting on me is a 14-bolt FF with the spring perches moved, the front 8-lug outers, 4.10 gears for both axles, a master install kit for both from Randy's.

Anyway, good to be back and I know I'm going to have some questions as things progress so keep an eye out for me.
