My name is Justin, I have had an 89' K5 for 5 years now and its my pride and joy. Nothing too fancy done to it yet other than the usual lift, tires, gears etc. but am hoping to upgrade the running gear, toss the worn out 350 and build a stout 350 to drop in it. I have used this site for many repair guides and hope to have some good opinions from you guys on what to do next!

Hi all,

Welcome to the board, what part of florida? Remember, every 350 is a corvette engine when it's time to sell. So caution on that.

I just got a Maroon 1980 4WD Blazer 5.0. I bought it from a mechanic friend I work with. The motor is very strong and everything works on it. The only problem I have with it at the moment is squealing tires when I make a normal left or right hand turn. Another problem is when release the clutch in first gear (it is a 4 speed) the truck wants to "burn rubber" even with very little on the gas pedal. I stopped using first gear and it still does it in second gear. Now I don't know if the motor is just a good strong one or perhaps it is the tranny. I have the 4WD in 2HI. Is that where it is supposed to be? The hubs are in the "unlocked" position. The tires are properly inflated... What could it be?

Sounds like it has a locker in the rear.

My name is Dave, as if you couldn't tell by my forum name, LOL !

I am 50 years old as of Aug 2011, happily married, and live in North Carolina.

I have had 3 Blazers in my lifetime ... a 1979, a 1984, and a 1987 which I stupidly sold and bought a 1992 Ford Bronco ( yes, I must have been crazy ! ) . . .

Unfortunately, I still have the Bronco, but am in the process of trying to gather funds to buy and build yet another K5, that I will keep forever !

Thanks,

Dave

Newbie dropping in

Howdy, name's Randall. I got a 73 K5 about 3 months ago, and I've slowly been restoring/restomodding it. In the constant hunt for parts (that LMC doesn't sell), I'm sure I'll be coming back here often in order to pick everyone's brains. :)

I'm in Northridge, CA (earthquake country) and my K5 is my bug-out vehicle. Either that or an old enduro, but the K5 carries rifles a lot easier than a cycle.

In any case, I look forward to chatting with everyone.

Cheers,
Randall

P.S. - Where the H do I get the hard top to windshield frame brackets for a 73?!?

whats up everyone my name is Jeff from Minnesota. I drive a 1990 blazer with a 5.7 700r4 and 10 bolt rear. My plans are to fix the rust and upgrade the drivetrain, suspension and tires. I already got a 14 bolt FF that's going in soon as I'm done with the Detroit locker and disc brake upgrade. I'm bout to start a build thread soon and would love everyone's input.

Randall,

Wow . . . That's a tough question !

Are any of your current brackets in good or better condition ? If they are, you may have to get the parts made by a machine shop or if you can find someone with their own home workshop that could do it.

This thread on this Forum, may hold a solution for you : #275071

Especially if you can get in touch with the guy who posted Message # 4 "nostomofo" . . .

Dave
