Introduction

My name is Tyler, and my vehicle is a 1994 s10 blazer 2wd with a 5.3 LS swap. My favorite though is a 1973 k5 which is what brings me to this site. my father sold his pride and joy years ago and i am trying to track it down for him its a 1973 K5 Hawiian Blue Cheyenne that was a 350 4sp 4x4 vin CKY183F153774. It was sold in Kansas and last i knew had a mild lift installed and painted primer grey. I know its a long shot but i would really like to get this vehicle back or at least know that its still around. Thank you and i hope you guys may be able to help.

new guy here with some questions

whats up everyone...... new guy from gilroy, ca here..... decided to join so i can get a few questions answered before i get my hands on a first gen k5..... Used to have a 76 k5 lifted 6" and rolling on a set of 35s. it was nothing special to look at but it was a beast..... So after i sold it a few years ago i decided that i need a first gen in my life.

Ive got a idea for a 3 or 4 link front suspension with coil overs and a 4 link rear with coil springs. im having not too much luck finding any info on the rear coil spring 4 link....... can anyone point in a good direction.

Introductions

Hey everyone! My name is Mike, and I'm new to the boards. I never thought the day would come, but I managed to pry my grandfather's '71 K5 out of his hands, while they were still warm and living. What I didn't know was that the pristine, green Blazer that I knew growing up had fallen on hard times. I got the first pictures today, and in addition to some bad rusting, in the past 41 years he's owned it, he decided to make some "modifications". The engine and driveline are solid, though it does have some additional "features" installed; however it is increasingly looking like I inherited a one-owner project truck in need of a full restoration.

After poking around the boards a bit, it looks like this is just the sort of company who appreciates that sort of thing. :thumb:

Doug, from Birmingham, AL

Have a 73' K5 Blazer project I am currently working on. Hopefully can put up a thread and show what I have done so far and plans for the future to finish it. Might need some help and suggestions on where to find parts I'm missing and also willing to help others with what I know.

Let's see it! What are you doing to it? Restore or mod?

That tennis ball comes right off the CB antennae...and the compass will come off the dash but it will tear the vinyl. The bobblehead dog may be worth something on eBay....and that strange looking contraption on the driver's seat is a "wood bead seat massager"....that thing that looks like a toaster is an 8-track...probably has a pink Eagles cartridge in it...that union 76 ball will come off the radio antennae...but why would you want to remove it?

All modifications aren't bad...:haha:

I'm more worried about the cutting brakes, the transmission out of an RV, the "custom" A/C that utilizes components out of a Frigidaire, the engine-driven boat-wash pump, and the dual-shocks that were welded on "at some point back during the Nixon years..."

If it runs R-22 you got something there.....:haha:

New to the forum, just picked up a 78 K5 last night for what I though was a steal. Motor is out of the truck and plan on throwing in a low mile TBI 305 from a 90 model camaro but reverting it back to carbuerated. Truck has the all time 4x4 transfer case, 12 bolt rear and Dana 44 front axles. Nearly 300k on the clock but seems like the transfer case and transmission have been rebuilt somewhere along the way. Look forward to gaining some knowledge about these trucks and maybe modding a bit. It'll be primarily my ride to work as my toy is an 04 silverado SS procharged, cammed, stalled, 4l80e swap...whole nine yards.

New - 72 Blazer: Project "Rat Piss"

New member chiming in...

Project "Rat Piss" (named appropriately due to the dead rodent in A/C fan and the piss stench that still lingers), is a purchase for my 15 year old son. It will be his first car officially when I turn the keys over to him in December! Initial concept was for a "father and son" project... is now a "hurry and get it done Dad" project! Initially trailer-ed home but the enticement was the $5K worth of new parts supplied by the original owner! Project Rat Piss has been under construction for about eight months now.. and looking to throw paint soon! Everything primed, nit-picking body work, paint scheme selected, and spraying shortly! Overall a solid truck, worked a couple rust areas, pulled some dents, but the biggest project was the rebuilding of both rocker boxes, floor pan, A-pillar, and under door panels! Never again!! Stupid design! Engine seems to be solid, but haven't gotten it on the road.. just driving in back yard sitting on a bucket.. you know the deal!

Rat Piss Specs:

  • CST package
  • Engine: 350
  • Automatic w/ Turbo 350
  • Power Steering & Brakes
  • Factory A/C
  • Stock stance (looking to go 2")
  • 33" tires on Craiger style rims
  • Hardtop, looking to purchase soft top instead
  • Was Green, specs say Blue, currently Gray, going Dark Gray almost Black with Red accents

By the way, I've been watching post for some time as a Basic Member.... have received a lot of great info! Keep up the posts, I can use all the advise you can provide!

Allrightythen... I'm Daniel, I live in Norway and I'm an addict.

My first car was an '89 Dodge Ram 350 cargovan. A.S.S. Racing seats, some fancy wooden steering wheel, a pretty potent 360 'police interceptor' powerplant and more colors than I care to remember. Even had a few bullet holes as it supposedly used to be a Bandidos motorcycle gang raid truck  Had to move to Sweden to drive it. My dad ran a gas station over there, which came in handy... Sold the truck again when my dad moved to back to Norway, and got a '78 Pontiac Bonneville Grand Safari... sure missed that gas station as the previous owner had swapped the original engine with a '68 400cid out of some armored personnel carrier. Thing sure was thirsty :doah: Ran perfectly though, and it drove my posh neighbors crazy :thumb:

Traded it against my dads '91 GMC Suburban after about a year, first 4wd I had myself and my favorite so far. Was my daily driver for a year or so until I got ridiculously burned out at work and the truck suffered a blown head gasket (sympathetic breakdown, I think). Couldn't get anything done and it sat for far too long until my dads (then) girlfriend bought the Pontiac, dad traded the Suburban for something else and I suddenly had an '83 Lada Niva... certainly was something else. Couldn't help grinning every time I hit the road (or trail) in it, though :D I lost count of how many (large, heavy..) parts fell off of it, but it never stopped running. Except when going up that hill that time in the middle of nowhere, at night, with an 18wheeler tailgating. Actually ran much better after the front drive shaft fell off and I had rear wheel drive only!

Then I met a girl, sold the Soviet rattlebox and moved to Germany for a few years :doah:

Well.. now I'm back in Norway, living at my parents places, and trying to get back on my feet. Currently stuck on social welfare as I'm dealing with a nasty depression and other issues more or less relating to my Aspergers Syndrome (autism spectrum). Needing something to get my mind off of things and a way to get around more freely than I can using public transportation, I started looking for a new car. The rest, as they say, is history.. or at least, a new thread.

Excited to finally have a K5!

Hey all. I grew up around my older bro's 75 blazer (factory 4 speed that he still owns some 24 years later) and loved that truck growing up. After finishing my Masters and then a year long search I finally landed a 84 GMC Jimmy of my own. Zero rust, full interior is well kept and at $1000, a price tag that was far too good to pass pass up.

While it is distracting me from other projects...I'm looking forward to the challenge. After building my 71 Chevelle, this should present a totally new learning curve and I'm looking forward to picking the brains of the best and brightest here to make it what I know it can be. A clean looking rig to take camping and carry my mountain bike while I'm at it.

See you all on the boards!

new guy

Well im in Norfolk Va, I have a 1991 K5 with a 3" body lift, 35's powered by a 350 th700r4. It used to be a police K9 truck some years back. I love my truck, needs a little work now. TH350 will bolt to the t-case but you'll need new driveshafts front and rear. The 700R4 has an undeserved bad rep. If it's getting old and needs a rebuild then get it rebuilt with all the current updates to make it handle whatever power and abuse you might put it through.

Or, like 99% of people who lift their truck and slap bigger tires on without regearing the axles and then wonder why their trans fails or shifts funny or never gets to overdrive, etc.... You need to regear your axles to 4.56s for those 35s. Am I right?

and.... Welcome, to the latest batch of new CK5ers!!! :waytogo:

South West Michigan member,
I have a rust free 1986 M1009 military Blazer that I am installing a 383 in.
And a 1986 K10 that I use as my personal plow truck.

New burb owner here, was just introduced to these forums.

2006 Suburban 2500 4x4, 96K miles, 2000 engine hours, X-Border Patrol vehicle, got it at a good deal, more of an enjoyment car, want to learn how to work on it and get an intro to 4x4 before I spent more money on one. This one appears to be in pretty good shape over all, even though I'm sure it was used hard. I've already fixed a few minor body things and started installing my Ham Radios.

Looking forward to learning and participating in the forums!

I have just personally had bad luck with the 700R4's and also friends as well. A friend once bought a new performance one for his jeep with a small block in it, shortly there after itblew on him. Mines working ok for now, but I would just like to put in one I know of as reliable.

New guy in the forum

I joined to try to get some ideas of what to do with my new project. I purchased a 1971 k5 blazer, 2wd. it has the usual rusted areas. I pretty much know how to fix most of them, i just need assistance with ideas about windshield frame repairs. i am located in Rockledge Fl. i have already replaced the tops of the bed rails with new sheet metal, i will post some pics when i learn how to do that function here. look forward to talking to the blazer folks.
