my name is paul. i live in south texas. i run WEEKEND 4 WHEELERS. they called my old bronco the candy cane so i figured it fit. i had an account in FSB (full size bronco) and have been around 4 wheel drives all my life. well about 5 months ago i sold my bronco to get a family car and man it sucked.. i miss it but i have been thinking about getting a K5 due to the hand crank on the rear window and the lack of TTB trash on the front. when i had the bronco all i wanted was to SAS it to a 44 front and 9" rear. so why not just get a K5. i will be trying to get as much info on here as i can. thanks.

oh and i already got that family car.

Hi my name is Josh. Wanted to formally introduce myself to the ck5 forums.

I live in North carolina, just moved to the Greensboro area for work after getting out of the army. I just recently bought a 78 K5. Here is a little info about it.

3/4 ton leaf springs
35" ground hawgs
sbc 350 / th350 / ? transfer case? Has GM and a casting number stamped on it.
The th350 has a shift kit
Stock 350 with an edelbrock intake
quadrajet carb........of course lol

I bought it from a really young kid who cut some corners so I'm slowly but surely getting it done.

Had it 4 days and I've done this to it so far:
replaced the rear drive shaft U joints
New heater core
New blower motor
New wheel cylinders for the rear drums
New master cylinder
Manual choke conversion from the non working electric choke
Balanced the ground hawgs
Flushed tranny and engine oil
Installed working horn
Changed the plugs

I still have to:
Identify a coolant leak from possibly the water pump
Install new belts
Put back in the rear bench seat
Install passenger side seat belt
and whatever else comes along lol.

But anyways I look forward to talking to all of you. I'm sure I will have plenty of questions as I get further into the rebuild. Pics incoming soon.

Josh

Hello - my name is Eric and I recently purchased a 1973 K10. Love the truck so far, looking forward to working on it and getting it cherry with your advice and help.

got one

hi from western colorado. currently i'm driving my 77 gmc k15 going to look at a 86 k5 tomarrow. can't wait wanted a k5 forever my dad had a new blazer in 72. we wheeled the .... out of it back in the day before there where lifts and big tires. haven't been out in the truck much lately because i have teenagers and it only seats 3.wish me luck. its an 86 with a 4" lift. looks to be in good shape, will see

i got one. its a 79 jimmy same set up as my truck 465/205 12bolt. love it did a test run up mt garfield. got some bugs to work out of it nothing big. allready got a wish list. magnum gear splitter from ord and there soft top 35 or bigger. not sure when that will happen. i'm so excited and so are my boys looking forward to this coming summer.has a 6" lift with new 33's

fyi did this about 10 years ago to my truck and just did it to my jimmy. if your clutch pedal dosen't go all the way out then its rubbing on the housing under your dash. to check for this pull up on the pedal it shouldn't move if it dose reach/look at your pedal assembly when you pull it out it is rubbing on the left side of housing. i bend the housing out with a visegrip, now you have full pedal and you can adjust clutch so you wont have to push the pedal to the floor to shift.

Greetings from West Virginia

I am new to the site, my name is Cameron. I'm 19- 20 next month, My first vehicle was a 85 k10. It used to be my uncles dd and he parked it due to gas prices. Me and my dad worked on it so I had something to drive:D. I one day decided I also couldnt afford the gas and parked it at my grandparents house(My pap and uncle bought the truck). I've had 2 other vehicles since then. I currently have a 91 k1500 v6 5spd. I began interest with the 85 again when my grandpa was diagnosed with ALS this summer. He used the truck as a scrap wood and coal hauler. Other than that it sat, that truly ate at me and bothered me, but what could I do? So I had asked about the truck one day after my Grandma stated they were going to get their wills done(I've lived with my Grandparents for 2 years, love it!) that when I asked about the truck. Since then my dad said don't sink a boat load into my 91 and put it in the 85. I have plans for it and it includes the following:

-Better Frame( the one its on now is cracking in a second spot and WV laws changed for frames again to no frame work at all that includes welding:doah:
-Convert the 700r4 to a standard so I can shift gears and try to gain a tad bit more on the mpg-I found this site researching about NV4500s. The bored out 400 makes transmission selections. Hopefully you all can help with this and guide me through so when the money and parts come its not a torn apart truck forever.lol
-New trim and a paint job- Emerald Green Metallic isn't the cheapest paint, but that has always been the color of the 85 since I was young.

This truck has a lot of sentimental value and I can't watch it fall apart or be junked. Hope there are others that fell this way about any of their cars/trucks.

Pics of my truck..

Intro

Ok So I have a 1985 K5 Blazer I am working on it was in rough shape due to the rust in the tailgate area and the gas line and some 1/4 panel areas. Those have been fixed. Ilive in El Paso and am in the Army for a couple more years. I intend to put a new crate engine/Tranny (it has the 305 in it now), in the K5 as soon as I get back from deployment. I think i need to put all/completely new bushing in the suspension system since it rides terrible and most are worn out. I look forward to hearing from anyone who has done the same stuff and can offer advice. Thanks
Peter

Welcome, ask your question in "the garage" for best results. That's a high traffic tech section of this site. I'm sure someone will have some answers.

I'm Jerry and have a 1973 K10. It's pretty much stock except for the ZZ4 GM 350 I installed last year. It has a stock 4 speed, 3.08 gears and 31" All Terrain T/As.
