Hi, my name's Dustin. I'm from Florida, I co-own & manage an auto repair/ transmission shop and I'm currently building a '77 K10 with a '66 Chevy cab on it. It's a frankenstein truck for sure. Dana 44/ 12 Bolt, SM465, NP205 drivetrain from the '77 with a 305 TBI out of a '95 G20 van going in it. My plan is to use as much from the donor G20 as I can: 305 TBI, computer, air conditioning system, serpentine belt drive. I've already got it stripped down to the frame & cab, installed 6" Tough Country EZ Rides in the front, and started removing rust from the frame.
I became hooked on 4x4s from my dad's '79 K5 when I was growing up. I have many great memories in that truck. Several years after he sold it, we got the itch again for another K5, and found a nice '89 K5 Blazer 4x4 that needed some minor work. That minor work turned into a complete frame off resto-mod by the time we were done, which took us about two years to finish. We sold that truck not long after finishing it and I got that itch again, this time falling in love with this '66/77 frankenstein monster. As soon as I get enough posts, I add some pictures of both the '89 Blazer resto and this '66/77 project.
This is a great site! I've already answered tons of unasked questions just reading through the pages of posts.
Forgot to add, my DD is a '99 Silverado 4x4 with a new GM Performance 5.3L crate engine

Hey guys hows it going. So i have a 1978 jimmy i just bought for 500$ and starting a trail rig build. I am very new to this style of build but not to custom fab or race cars. Have built lots of trucks for racing in the baja 1000 but don't know much about crawling. Wanted to slow it down a bit and get the whole family in the vehicle and do some camping. Hope you guys can help thanks.
 
My name is Randy im from Edgewood,MD i just got a 86 jimmy for $350 n have alot of plans for it. Currently its stock 350 700r4, n 10 bolts. Plan to upgrade rears to 14 ff not sure for front.
 
Hi,my name is jacob. I am from Alaska am a freshman in highschool ( im 14) :) . I recently got my first offroad rig last summer. It is an 82 k5 blazer with sb350/th350/np203 , Stock axles,4.10 gear ratio,edelbrock carb and intake, 39x15.50x15 firestone all terrains. I am usually have all my time filled up in the winter with wrestling in high school but when i get free time i like to work on the truck.

New guy looking at getting a K5 Blazer

I'm Don. I'm looking at a particular 72 that I've known about for several years. Owner, a relative, finally wants to do something with it. This will be my second Chevy product I've chosen to buy. The first was a 93 Balzer. The others were given to me. I'm pretty much a Ford guy. Nothing against Chevys, the few I've owned before I've liked.

So this 72 has some rust and a bent valve. If the deal goes through I'll post some pics when I trailer it home. It used to be a low mileage, rust free rig. My relative has let it go downhill a bit. I hope to rescue it and use it as a driver and who knows maybe even restore it one day.

Looks like a nice website for these cool trucks.
 
Mostly trails with the family in big bear and gorman and local desert. Im in southern cal. Im a fabricator so will be doing a full cage but keeping the leafs and doing the bare minimum on axles has a 12bolt rear and a dana 44 front 6lug . Want to swap rear thinking for a 14 bolt sf 6 lug but it will get the track wider wich i need since i will be putting on some 39 bfgs . Its lifted 4" now but think i will have to get new leafs and go to 6" . I will be cutting wheel wells open bigger.

39s? You are gonna want to rethink your axle choices or tire size. 39s are beyond the "safe zone" for that front D44 or corp 10b and just outside the limits of the 14bsf. Plus taking the family camping, all the gear, cage, etc adds weight. D60 front and 14bff rear will be your best bet to prevent being stranded out in the middle of nowhere with your family and a broken axle or whatever. General rule of thumb, build it stronger than you plan on using it.

Or, keep the D44 and upgrade to the rear 14bsf and keep your tire size down to 35s (37s if you spend a lot of money to upgrade the front). Family camping and mild to moderate wheeling the smaller tire size will keep the truck more user friendly.

I'm just thinking out loud here. You may want to start a thread in the garage section to discuss build recipes vs how you want to use the rig. I'm sure we have some members here that are familiar with the big bear area and could provide some good useable input on how to build for the terrain. And $25 for membership here will be some of the best $ you ever spend on that truck. You'll be able to see ALL the pics in here as well as gain access to all of the great info in the other sections of this site. :waytogo:

Im happy now to see that i can have access on replying and posting on our forum after paying for 25USD. I think its worth it and im hoping its gonna be more worth it after i make my first query. I just found myself a Blazer CK5 from 1974 and im hoping that i can do a good project out of it. So pls help me on this one guys.
 
hi, my name is Ian also know as TheOtherIan or TOI. i live in Texas, love wheeling, and have always had a thing for older chevy 4x4s. although if you looks though my vehicle history you wouldn't suspect it. i've had 9 jeeps mostly cherokees, a grand and comanche, a toyota 4runner, but never a 4x4 chevy and its about time i hop on the band wagon. because im getting tired of my cheap jeeps failing me all the time. so as soon as my buddy buys my jeep i'll be in the market for a rust free 80's blazer. :D


my current wheeler is as said a jeep cheorkee, 90 year model, 2-3" budget lift, 2wd and 31's. had plans to swap it to 4x4, i even have everything in my garage. but its time to move on.

and my daily driver is a 93 subaru impreza wagon with fully adjustable suspension, stripped and gutted, and a budget turbo set up in the works. it makes up for the jeeps failing. :waytogo:


so that sums me up, im going to be around. research before i buy and what not.

Hi, my name is Scott and I live in St. Augustine, Fl. I have a 86 k5 that was purchased brand new by my grandfather (RIP). It was used in a boat shop until about 8 years ago when the shop was closed. Since then it has been the 'spare' vehicle that has been from one family member to another. It was my daily driver for a little over a year then my brother used it for his hunting camp which ended up in a broken rear axle and it sitting in someones back yard for 4 years. I just recently got it back about six months ago and am trying to fix it back up little by little. It has a jasper 305 with about 25k miles with long tube headers, I replaced the front seats with reclineable seats from a 86 suburban, and got a 10 bolt out of a 80's model k10. I sanded primed then painted the exterior with road armour truck bedliner. It has the stock 700r4 trans, 10 bolts front and rear, not sure about the transfer case. It has a 4" lift with 35" bfg mud terrains. It has the normal rust on the door sills, on the rear passenger corner, and other than that is a very solid blazer. It has a lot of room for improvement but with limited funds it is going to be a work in progress for years to come. I have managed to keep the blazer from being sold by my family a few times now as it has a lot of sentimental value to me and wouldn't trade it for a thing. I look forward to checking out some of the rigs on here and getting some ideas and help on working on mine. Cant think of anything else right now so till next time keep on wheeling.

if you search, there is a buyers guide on here some of the guys put together for what to look for on these. Good luck on the search, and get rid of the heep :D

Uhh, hello from Virginia; I own a 75 K20 with a lot rust; aside from that it is pretty basic: It's a 350 motor with a th350 connected to a 203. It has a 14 bolt full floater with a Gov Lok.

Name is snowcap3737 from northern california and i am new to site. have a 72' k5 i picked up from an old friend for free! never thought i would get one but it is great. been sitting for about 4 years but a california car and in relatively great shape. i'll post pics soon, just starting a mild restoration to get it rolling.
 
I'm way too deep into drag racing, like hanging out on the Alabama River, and have an old K-5. 4x4 stuff is fairly new to me. I played in the mud growing up but never had anything serious. I hope you guys can educate me a little bit.
