Introductions & Greetings

Hello all, I recently started looking for a blazer to buy and enjoy with my daughter and wife. The snow in Illinois sucks and I want to punch through it, not get stuck in it. I love the look of he 70 K5 so now I am hunting for one. I am getting bummed cause it looks like everybody wants it to fully restore it and drain the hell out of a pocket book. Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I'll be reading and wishing I find something sooner or later.

if you want one to bash up then why does it have to be a 1970....one of the rarest????

Bash... no, enjoy, yes. I am a fan of the blazer and enjoy the looks, the old car smell, and the ability to drive it and smile with pride as it makes people's heads turn, It is a 4x4 so it needs to be fed a diet of dirt and snow, but I see no use in tearing up a vehicle. Long family history of pride in our vehicles, regardless of make/model. If I am going to get one and work on it, then it should make me happy driving it. This will be in the family as long as possible...I will enjoy passing it on later in life to one a enthused as I.

Are you a LEO?

So you are looking for one to fix up yourself and you are having a hard time finding one that isn't already restored?

Got it... amusing, now I have t watch the movie again..."Show me the way to go home...."

Yes I am looking to get into a drivable project.

69 and 1970 seem to be very rare...there are way more 1971 and 1972s out there...I am not all that familiar with the first generation Blazers
I would guess that more of those have had to be restored due to the fact that if you find one it's in pretty bad shape with rust

and if you believe the manufacturing numbers...only 7000 of them were ever made

Step in and have a look around...you will occasionally see some guys with 1970 Blazers for sale.

I have never gotten into something like this, but like all things I like t get in over my head. I know this will be a long term fix, rust is inevitable up here, so I like the thought of dealing with a truck that was built well to begin with. I dislike fiberglass. Nothing like trials and tribulations to make us stronger.

Joining from the Pacific NW

Evening,
As I sit here waiting for some promised snow I thought I would introduce myself. I doubt the snow arrives. My first K-5 was a 1978, which I loved, enough room for a small family and 135 lb Malamute, who was sure it belonged to him. I'm now looking for a M1009 project to work on. Steel Soldiers and CK5 seems to be the place to come for information. The build is not because it would be cheap, but the M1009 is pretty much bare bones and easier to work on. Old guys need simple. I look forward to talking as my project comes along.

Chuck,
KD7MHG
The older I get, the better I was...

I saw one with a neighboring police dept. They got one cheep and running from the US Gov. Bare bones and green...have fun with that.

The government sells them to Police, Fire and I think some Scouting groups for about $125.00. Most are running, we had a M1008, A Peacekeeper and I know a couple of agency that had Humvee, used them to haul surf skis for rescue. A lot of rescue units get these vehicles.

New Member Introduction & Questions about my 72' Jimmy Half Cab

Hello,
I've been interested in K5's for a while. I finally have a couple of them. I'm located in the Baltimore area so I don't see many around here in Maryland. I just bought a 72' Jimmy Half Cab. I'm wondering if it is possible that it came that way stock. Did they make a 72' jimmy Half Cab stock? If so, are they rare? I tried to do a little research but couldn't find much information on the subject. I haven't had a chance to clean her up yet but I'm trying to post a couple pictures of her. Here's a few links, hopefully this works...

This was an aftermarket product.
It's rare too.

Hello from Seattle, I have had a few K5's, and a bunch of square body pickups. I just picked up an 86 K10 shortbed, and figured this would be a good place to get info when I need it.

Is your K10 a step side? Hello from across the lake.
