Introductions & Greetings

Have you ever picked up a 273? I have. I've swapped the tcase out of my superduty benching it in and out. I have also hand bombed 205s in and out on more than one occasion. Equally heavy if you ask me.

I don't actually know the numbers. But if a 205 is 130 lbs. a 273 is well over a hundred. They use Magnesium cases not aluminum.

One thing worth clarifying is that personal attacks are a no-no around here. Running a 205 vs any of the other cases out there is not a matter of growing a pair. It's a matter of preference. No one case has it all, and my build parameters may be quite different from yours. Recognizing that is one of the things that keeps useful information flowing around here (vs. worthless insulting matches that crop up on other forums).

I'll use your "hard shifting" comment as an example. Most of the times that my street rig uses 4WD are when I'm driving through snow storms. I may need to engage 4WD suddenly while driving down the highway. NP205 cases (non-synchronized) are terrible for this purpose. It doesn't matter how bulletproof it is because it doesn't fit my need for that particular truck (although I'm considering running one in my expedition rig). And there are a bunch of things like this that should be considered when selecting a transfer case. One size does not fit all.

Doesn't matter if you're a noob at this point. That's what we're here for. To feed that bug so that someday you'll be a smart, knowledgeable squarebody addict. :thumb:

So welcome to CK5! Can't wait to see how the rig turns out.

Jets are cool on this end. And I welcomed you to the club. I wish only to point out that you are going to miss out on some neat tech information if you come in here having already decided that some transfer case is automatically the best thing since sliced bread. There's always more than one side to a story, and a 205 may or may not be best for your situation. But it certainly isn't best for every truck on here.

Yeah, those transfer cases in the Dodge,s behind the Cummins are heavy. I had to take one in and out a few times.
