trying to find some cheap motors to drop into some motorless trucks and I have found a couple 350 that need rebuilt but I have found a rebuilt 283 in a 60's chevelle. Won't this be enough of a v8 for an s-10?

I know everyone is going to say..get a 350...get a 400....

we are talking $250 for the truck and $200 for the motor:D

A friend of mine put a rebuilt 283 that I sold him in a 69 El Camino and it would run mid 14's all day long. I would think if set up right in a S10 it would scream.

Hell, when I build my buggy I am planning a Chevy 250 I-6. Even fairly stock it modivates my buddy's 66 Chevy C10 around very well with tons of lowend.

Just remember that a 283 is not going to take late model accessories like AC and P/S pumps. You will be looking for rare original brackets or something aftermarket if you need those accessories.

Buddy had an S-10 with a 267 in it, saw it but never drove it, guess it went good. Better than the 4 or the 6 could go....

well considering most S10s come with 4 bangers and some with v6s, I dont think you can go wrong.

got a call back and the motor is with out the accessory holes but has all the brackets.
came out of a 64 chevelle to make room for a crate motor. the motor is spec'd at 190 for a 2bbl and 220 for a 4bbl. should be plenty for an s-10, if that guy would just call me back,LOL

that engine might be worth more to someone who is looking for a complete date code correct 283 for a restoration. i just paid a grand for a correct datecode 327 for a camaro resto im doing. the engine needs completely rebuilt too.

i was just thinking.
the other motor i found (tbi 350) would be going from a 4200# car into a 2700 truck#
cam, headers and a throttle body spacer would put me at a rough guess of 11 pounds per horse from the 20.5# per horse. Should be fun!!!!!
