How do you guys with air on your rigs Like it? There is a kid selling a 5gal Tank and an Air Zenith compressor for $250. Thinking about where to mount it. Does the compressor need a well ventalated mounting spot? Or say under a seat. Do you carry a good amount of tools to run with it on you rigs? For those of you that don't have it, is it on your wish list?
Thanks

It is currently in my plans. I am looking at the new Warn winch setup with built in air. Makes it simpler, still pulls 12.5k, and should work great when I air down in the sand around here. It is pricey though at a little over 1400, but it will take time to get it anyway.

on board air for trucks is extremely convenient to have, i have seen air grinders and impact wrenches used on the trail a few times. most convenient thing you can use every time you go out is the ability to air down your tires without having to worry about looking for air

OBA is a great accessory. If only for airing tires back up. I used a motor mounted York set up though from Kilby.

Do the compressors have to be in a ventalated area to keep them a little cooler? Thinking about putting it under a seat. Wouls a 3gal tank be too small?? I have heard a 5 is the least you would want to carry.

You're gonna cook your butt and melt carpet if you put it under the seat. Compressors get HOT ... and are noisy to boot.

Tank just acts as a buffer ... like the battery in your electrical system. Bigger tank means that the compressor runs less, for that one cycle ... but the compressor still has to run to pump it up. For pumping up tires, the system you're talking about will work, but slowly. No way something like that would run an impact though, you'd get one lug spun off every 5 minutes or something.

Same here, but I got my York from a junkyard and spent less than $100 on the whole setup. i can run air tools - think impact - and air up/down with no problem.

I was reading that one air zenith comp did the job of two 450 viar comps in the same time or less filling a 12gal tank. Thats what had me interested in the AZ comp.

Can these things get so hot they cause damage to themselves?

I got my self a big ole Co2 tank(not sure weight, but about 2 feet tall, 25lb?) taht used to be for a soda dispenser and am going to get a regualtor for it(cheap ones are $50). I'll pay for a refill once a year and be able to take it in my rig or the wife's or a friends, and not have to mount anything extra to my motor or electrical system.

i'm running OBA with a York compressor and i don't look back. Nice to be able to air up your tires, use air tools, or even just a blow gun when needed. I have a 2.5 gallon tank and it works awesome.
